Tzedek Fellowship
Teen Leadership program
by Ariel Glueck
In spring of 2023, the Park Avenue Synagogue Teen Department worked with the NYM Region to create a pilot program called the Tzedek Fellowship, a new hands-on leadership training initiative for teens to develop a tikkun olam initiative. I had the honor to work with Drs. Steven and Heidi Mandel and Aaron Altman directly to create this program from the ground up.
The Tzedek Fellowship at PAS ran from January to May and will continue yearly. Teens applied for the fellowship with a tikkun olam project they were already working on, or an idea to start one. They were able to apply alone or in groups.

Wrap-Up
Celebrate Israel Parade
| |
Israel @ 75: Renewing the Hope
On Sunday, June 4th, tens of thousands marchers and spectators participated in the New York City annual Celebrate Israel Parade.
Jews from all over the United States, members of youth movements, schools, synagogues, Jewish organizations and representatives from Israel attended the parade.
This year's Grand Marshall was Harley Lippman, the Founder and CEO of Genesis10. There was incredible live entertainment including singer, Matisyahu. Following the parade was a fun festive block party with family friendly activities, music, arts and crafts, food vendors and much more.
The JCRC-NY Celebrate Israel Parade is unquestionably the world’s largest expression of solidarity with the Jewish state. No other event in the world brings as many people together to celebrate Israel. It was a chance for us to gather, Jews and non-Jews alike, and walk arm in arm, together as one.
TODAH to all the partners, sponsors, and marching groups for helping to make the parade possible!

“Our goal should be to live life in radical amazement...get up in the morning and look around at the world in a way that takes nothing for granted. Everything is phenomenal; everything is incredible; never treat life casually."

How this Brooklyn neighborhood became the ‘Klezmer Shtetl’
(New York Jewish Week) — Some of the greatest talents in Jewish music have strolled Midwood’s lettered avenues, including the klezmer musician Pete Sokolow and the Hasidic composer Ben Zion Shenker. Both have left us — Sokolow in 2022, Shenker in 2016 — but the Modzitzer synagogue on Avenue L, where Shenker once lead prayers, is a spiritual home for klezmer virtuoso and Midwood denizen Andy Statman, 73. He’s davened (prayed) there for more than 30 years.
