Mayor and Council New Year’s Levee

Join the Mayor and Council for the New Year’s Levee at the ROC on Saturday, Jan. 14, 2023. There will be a pancake and sausage breakfast starting at 9 a.m., while quantities last. From 10 a.m. to noon, guests will receive an all-access lift pass for the ROC.

Sno*Fest

Warm up your winter with some frosty fun for all ages. Join us for SnoFest at the ROC and Georgina Pioneer Village on Feb. 11 from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. There will be outdoor fun for the whole family! Join us for activities, live entertainment, games, food and more! Celebrate winter in Georgina with us!

2022 Viddy Award

The Town of Georgina and Georgina Fire and Rescue Services have won a 2022 Gold Viddy Award for the educational video on the fire boat. The Viddy Awards are an international competition recognizing outstanding achievements in video and digital production skills. More than 2,500 entries were submitted throughout Canada, the United States and many other countries in the 2022 competition. Judges are industry professionals who look for companies and individuals whose talent exceeds a high standard of excellence and whose work serves as a benchmark for the industry. 

Waste calendar and Christmas tree pickup

Did you receive your copy of the 2023 Waste and Recycling calendar? You can view and download a copy online at georgina.ca/WasteandRecycling. Christmas tree pickup will be held the week of Jan. 9, 2023. Residents are asked to remove all decorations, nails, tree stands and plastic tree bags. The maximum size is six feet or 1.8 metres. If your tree is larger, cut it into pieces.

Pefferlaw Ice Pad (PIP)

Time to lace up the skates! The Pefferlaw Ice Pad (PIP) is open. The PIP is an unsupervised ice pad, use at your own risk. We ask all users to be respectful of one another. Before you visit, be sure to review the rules of etiquette of play and follow the daily schedule.

Winter operations

Despite the current mild temperatures, we know that winter will be returning. The Town is committed to providing a consistent level of snow removal service throughout the winter season. Using a combination of Town staff and contractors, plowing, sanding and salting is performed each winter with consideration to safety, environmental and budgetary concerns. The Town's new online winter operations tracker is live. It allows residents to see where the snowplows are during snow clearing.

Winter parking restrictions

Winter is here and that means we need to keep the roads and sidewalks clear. Winter parking restrictions are now in effect until April 15, meaning no parking between the hours of 2 a.m. and 7 a.m.

Stormwater ponds

With colder temperatures, a reminder that stormwater ponds will freeze and they are not to be used as skating rinks. They are not intended or designed for recreational use as water levels can change rapidly and create unsafe conditions. This is extremely dangerous and poses many safety risks for residents.

Council

The Town of Georgina is holding virtual Council meetings. These meetings will be broadcast as usual through the Town’s live streaming tool.

Jan. 24 and 25 – 9 a.m. Budget Deliberations

Public participation by phone is available. A pre-registration form is required to be submitted to the Clerks Division by noon the day before the meeting. The form can be found at georgina.ca/CouncilMeetings.
