Hello Friends,

As we close out 2022, we are filled with immense gratitude for our fabulous RTMC community who have worked tirelessly to bring our mission to life: Repairing Homes, Revitalizing Communities, Rebuilding Lives.

Thank you to our terrific board members, staff team, donors, volunteers, and community partners for your partnership to serve our neighbors in need. The critical home repairs and accessibility modifications we provide are vital and have allowed hundreds of vulnerable families to remain safely in their homes in 2022.

We are proud of the way our RTMC community has come together to adapt and create new solutions to keep serving our vulnerable neighbors in need. During Fiscal Year 2022, we served 151 vulnerable families, and we are on pace to serve an additional 180 families in need by the end of June 2023.

Other highlights of 2022 included our annual National Rebuilding Day in April where 700+ volunteers fanned out across the county to transform the lives of 23 families in need; our annual Cheers to Volunteers in June to recognize and celebrate our volunteers and community partners; and the RTMC Golf Tournament in October that brought out 140+ golfers to raise funds for critical home repairs.

We are filled with hope for 2023 and invite you to join us! Our annual flagship event, National Rebuilding Day, which offer three volunteer days to choose from: April 28, April 29 or April 30, 2023. We are actively recruiting corporate and faith-based volunteer groups to join us to help 25 vulnerable families in need of critical home repairs. Deadline to sign up is February 15, 2023.

For the many of you who have already made an end of year donation, THANK YOU! For those who haven’t, there is still time to donate at the link below.

As always, your partnership is much appreciated. Thank you for supporting our mission and making the work of Rebuilding Together Montgomery County possible. Happy Holidays!

With gratitude,

Maury Peterson

Rebuilding Together with Wells Fargo

Immense gratitude to the Wells Fargo volunteer team who came out in force to help Mrs. N., a 78-year-old widow who has lived in her Silver Spring home for nearly 50 years (pictured in the center with her Home, Sweet, Home doormat). Mrs. N.’s husband was a veteran and passed away four years ago. Mrs. N. keeps busy taking care of her young grandchildren. RTMC recently replaced her leaking roof after water damaged multiple walls in the home. Thanks to our Wells Fargo volunteers, the walls in the living room, hallway and two bedrooms were repaired and freshly painted. In addition, the team repaired a fence, cleaned up the yard, and caulked windows and doors to keep the cold air out. It may have been cold outside, but the warm hearts of the Wells Fargo volunteers made a real difference for a neighbor in need.

Meet RTMC's Community Project Manager

Join us in congratulation Beki Mitiku on her new role at RTMC! As the Community Project Manager, Beki will be responsible for the field oversight, execution, and coordination of volunteer projects and some contractor projects. In collaboration with the Program Team, Beki will create and run a sustainable volunteer handyman program, co-lead RTMC volunteer projects, supervise the AmeriCorps Volunteer Coordinator, and take on contractor projects when necessary to help meet the Program Team’s monthly goals.

Beki recently completed her AmeriCorps service with RTMC as the AmeriCorps Volunteer Coordinator. Originally from Ethiopia, Beki is a long-time resident of Montgomery County. Beki graduated from the University of Maryland with a bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering and a master's degree in Project Management. She also obtained her PMP (Project Management Professional) certification. Prior to her time at RTMC, Beki worked as Project Engineer and Sr. Project Engineer for a construction company focused on roadway reconstruction and rehabilitation. We’re so glad to have Beki on our team!

Thank you, Hilti, for Your Wonderful In-Kind Donation!

Christmas came early to Rebuilding Together Montgomery County! All of us at RTMC are so grateful to our friends at Hilti for the phenomenal tool donation we recently received. We can't wait to put these tools to good use as we provide critical home repairs to our neighbors in need. Special thanks to Mike McGowan, Hilti Regional Head and CEO, for his support and Rebuilding Together Board service. Thank you!

RTMC's General Contractor Partners are the BEST!

RTMC couldn’t meet our goal to serve 180 families this year without the support of our tremendous general contractor partners. Throughout 2022, they step in time and time again to bring their phenomenal expertise and serve our neighbors in need with care, kindness, and the highest quality service. We are proud to partners with you and grateful for all you do!

Thanks to the RTMC Team!

Teamwork makes the dream work and the RTMC team has been working tirelessly to meet our goal to serve 180 vulnerable families this fiscal year. So far, the team has served 79 vulnerable families. They are helping to keep families safe at home and help preserve the affordable housing in the county. Board President Nancy Floreen and Executive Director Maury Peterson would like to give a special shout out to the RTMC Team members:

Homeowner Stories: Our Neighbor, Mr. C.

RTMC homeowner client Mr. C is 75-years old and has lived in his home since 2001. He was sadly widowed five years ago, however, his five grandchildren keep him busy. He is continually babysitting, although he admits it takes all his energy keep up with the five of them! One of the projects taken on by a volunteer group during National Rebuilding Day was to finish a section of fence in his yard, giving peace of mind to Mr. C that his preschool age grandchildren playing in his yard would not easily run into the busy road he lives beside. The volunteers also rebuilt multiple railings and landings inside and outside of Mr. C’s home, ensuring everyone’s safety. Special thanks to our wonderful volunteers from Saint Mark Presbyterian Church, Bethesda United Church of Christ and Holy Cross Catholic Church for working together to change Mr. C.'s life for the better.
