Colonial Heights Presbyterian Church is a congregation that

values a diversity of belief. Whether you're full of faith or full of doubt,

you'll find people who have been there and accept you for where you are.

We welcome all people to worship, pray, eat, seek spiritual answers, and enjoy life within this community of faith. All are welcome!

What a Wonderful Retreat!

This past weekend, we were blessed in so many ways! For those of us who were able to go on the retreat, it was wonderful to get away for a few days, enjoy the cool mountain air, and practice the gift of sabbath rest. Thanks to everyone who came and contributed to making it such a fantastic retreat. And it was such a joy to have Rev. Dr. Meredith Loftis join us on Sunday and lead our entire church family in worship. Thanks to all those who worshiped with us, both at home in the sanctuary and from Holston Camp!

This Sunday in Worship:

April 25, 2024 - Fifth Sunday of Easter

Throughout this past Lenten season, we learned that covenants are promises God made with God's people throughout the greater biblical narrative. For seven weeks we studied how God fulfilled these promises to Noah, Abraham, Moses, King David, The Prophet Jeremiah, The Disciples, and Jesus Christ. Join us this Sunday as we revisit this series and look toward the culmination of those promises found in the Book of Revelation about the Kingdom of God, one that is already here and not yet fully realized!

Sunday's Scripture:

Revelation 21:1-6, NRSV

Revelation 21:9-10, 22-22:5, NRSV

Sermon Title:

"Covenants & Promises: The Encore"

Come share the Peace of Christ with coffee and fellowship before worship beginning at 9:30am in the Parlor!

Upcoming Sermon Series:

Abiding in God's Love

We've heard it said that "God is love" but have you ever wondered what the love of God really looks like in our daily lives? Do you desire a clearer picture about what it means when we talk about abiding in God's love? How are we to live that love out in the world?

Join us next week as we spend the next three Sundays diving into John chapter 15 and tackling questions like these and more. We invite you to accompany us as we study and learn, with God's help, how to more deeply abide in the love of God.

CHPC hosts Holston Camp and Retreat Center (HCRC) this Sunday, April 28, for their annual support dinner within Holston Presbytery. While the camp has seen many changes over the years, their main goal in ministry continues to be serving children and adults through an outdoor, faith-based setting. It all is embodied in their new camp tagline, "Sharing the Love of Christ, Living in God's Creation." HCRC is now a registered 501(c)(3) organization with its own Board in a covenant relationship with the Holston Presbytery and the churches in Avery County, North Carolina. This dinner helps to financially support their meaningful ministry and space is available for anyone from the church that wishes to attend. Please contact Mike Stricker or David Randolph to learn more.

The Youth Group will have a Finals Study Party next Sunday, May 5, from 5-7pm in the Youth Center. Bring your books, notes, and study materials and we will offer a quiet space for our students to prepare for their end of semester tests!

Pentecost is on Sunday, May 19 and CHPC will be celebrating with a congregational lunch after worship under the pavilion. All are welcome to enjoy this catered meal by our friends on CFL as we break bread together.

Home Communion will be offered to any members or friends of Colonial Heights Presbyterian Church on Sunday, May 19 by our Elders. Please contact David if you, or someone you know, would like to receive the sacrament that afternoon.

The Spirit is moving on Wednesdays at CHPC! The Wednesday Afternoon Bible Study continues reading the book "Lies My Preacher Told Me - An Honest Look at the Old Testament" by Brent A. Strawn at 3:30pm with Lisa Pecorini and her fun crew. And then at 6:30pm, the weekly prayer gathering meets for a 30 minute intentional time of prayer and contemplation. Please contact Elder Donna Whitson if you would like to participate.

Do you know someone who desires to help the church make a joyful noise? As our own Carolyn Barry prepares to retire, CHPC is already looking for our next Choral Director. Please share this link here to the job ad to anyone you might know who should consider applying.

All items for the weekly online newsletter should be emailed to Mary at office@chpres.org by end of business on Tuesday.
