Greetings & Namaste!
November has so many festivals this year that we could dub it "Festival Month." The month begins with one of our biggest annual events, Diwali/Govardhana, combining the "Festival of Lights" with the celebration of Lord Krishna's lifting Govardhana Hill to protect His devotees from the wrath of the god Indra. Lots of action!
At mid-month we're reviving our annual tribute to Beatle George Harrison by celebrating his spiritual evolution through music. After listening to some of his songs, we'll hear stories from Gurudas, who knew George in the late 1960s and early 70s. Very "edutaining!"
November always reaches a crescendo at our all-vegan Thanksgiving Dinner. Our devotees at two stations will be ready to serve all you can eat, inside or on the patio, where live music will play and Sufi, our pet turkey, will strut his stuff.
A must taste!
For more info about all these festivals, please keep scrolling.
Yours in service,
Sandamini Devi

"Feast for the Beast"
at Tucson Zoo
For the past ten years Govinda's has been selected to participate in the Tucson Zoo's fund-raiser, "Feast for the Beast," an annual event where guests enjoy a variety of food and drinks from popular restaurants as they mingle with the Zoo's animal residents.
At this year's event, Raj, Yamuna & Ranjana served mango halavah, papadums & sesame chutney to the happy attendees. It's a great way to meet new people and introduce them to our blessed food.

Appreciation Dinner at the Temple
On October 18th we held an "Appreciation Dinner" to express gratitude to our congregation for their support over the past 30-plus years.
Highlights included a talk by our Governing Body Commissioner, HH Badri Narayana Swami, a short video of our history in Tucson since the late 80s, plus a 3-D model of our new temple complex to be built in the one-acre lot next to our existing property.
The evening ended with a delicious 12-course dinner accompanied by flute playing.

"Of months I am November-December."
"The month of [Mārgaśīrṣa] November-December is considered the best of all months because in India grains are collected from the fields at this time and the people become very happy."
(Bhagavad-gita, As It Is Chapter 10, text 35, excerpt from verse & purport)

"Śrīla Sanātana Gosvāmī...says that the incident of Kṛṣṇa's breaking the pot of yogurt and being bound by Mother Yaśodā took place on the Dīpāvalī Day, or Dīpa-mālikā. Even today in India, this festival is generally celebrated very gorgeously in the month of Kārttika by fireworks and lights... (Srimad-Bhagavatam 10.9.1-2 purport) | |
