| Thank you to everyone who joined us in person or on social media to celebrate our psychologists and psychologists-in-training on April 21st to mark the 15th annual Psychology Day at the United Nations! We were also excited to welcome UR President Sarah Mangelsdorf, PhD and UR Medicine Chief Wellbeing Officer S. Craig Rooney, PhD to our watch party for the United Nations's annual Psychology Day address! |
In addition, the Psychology Training Program celebrated our seven doctoral interns and six postdoctoral fellows during the week of April 22nd, with appreciation notes from the many inpatient and ambulatory integrated care settings where they provide exemplary, compassionate clinical care and special treats to acknowledge how much they add to our institution. It is a privilege to educate and learn from them!

Reel Minds Film Series Runs from May 14th to 28th

The Department of Psychiatry and the Department of Health, Humanities, and Bioethics will once again be partnering to present The Reel Mind Film Series, an annual series of films, performances, and discussions addressing the social stigma of mental illness and behavioral disorders, running from May 14th to the 28th. Each screening will be followed by a panel discussion, allowing audiences to engage directly with subjects from the films and experts in the field. Peter Britton, PhD, Elizabeth Karras-Pilato, PhD, Dev Crasta, PhD, and Wilfred Pigeon, PhD published a paper alongside Center of Excellence for Suicide Prevention and University of Colorado colleagues examining whether changes in distress and suicidal ideation during calls to the Veterans Crisis Line were associated with later contact and utilization of healthcare.

Andrea Shamaskin-Garroway, PhD was a coauthor on a call to action on addressing healthcare burnout through a trauma-informed care (TIC) approach, translating the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration's TIC framework to promote organizational change.

Thomas Caprio, MD was a coauthor on a study examining the differences and similarities between low-performing nursing facilities that do and do not undergo the Special Focus Facility Program, a quality improvement intervention.
