Abilities Centre's ASAD Program
Pickering Football Club Coaches Peter Hogg and Ravid Dindial are the technical leads for soccer as part of the Abilities Centre's ASAD (Academy of Student Athletic Development) program.
The ASAD program follows a ½ day sport specific training model where students spend half of the school day at the Abilities Centre and the other half at their home school. While at the Abilities Centre athletes will be trained by our soccer specific coaches twice a week on the outdoor fields across from the Abilities Centre in Whitby or at a local dome. They will also receive personalized strength and conditioning training by certified Abilities Centre staff 2-3 times a week. All during the school day for grades 9-12.
This does not prevent them from playing sports for their school team as long as they follow LOSSA rules and attend school within their home postal code. Students continue to take 4 courses per semester (Phys. Ed. and another class while at the Abilities Center) and 2 courses at their home school. Each student is timetabled for their individual pathway. This is a great way to enhance their soccer ability, develop critical sport-specific skills, gain the speed and strength needed to excel, all the while continuing to be a member of their home school community and school sports teams. Details regarding fees and specific student needs can be directed to Shalane Taciuk, ASAD Senior Coordinator at: Staciuk@abilitiescentre.org
