School Year Calendar

Notes From Mrs. Gardner

Parents,

One down, three to go! Today marks the end of our first quarter. Challenge your student to reflect. Ask them what they did well and what areas they need to improve. Now that students are more familiar with our expectations and processes, we are going to hold them even more accountable to ensure they are growing spiritually, academically, and behaviorally.

Beginning quarter two all submitted late work will receive a 10% deduction. We want our students to understand the value and importance of doing a good job and the worth in completing things on time. Of course, excused absences will not be penalized. Please contact me with any questions.

JH teachers are extremely proud of the respect and growth we have seen in quarter one! We look forward to discussing your student’s growth with you next week at parent teacher conferences. (See schedule below.)

***8th Grade Parents, Please plan to attend a very brief meeting following conferences regarding the 8th Grade Cardinal Ritter Living History Trip in April. The meeting will be in the cafeteria from 7:05-7:20.

Have a great weekend!

His peace be with you and your family,

Nicole Gardner

Parents,

Nicole Gardner

7th grade scientists will be working on calculating the volume of cylinders, as well as finding the volume of irregularly shaped objects using the displacement method (Archimedes Principle). We will do a lab in which we will first determine the volume and mass of a metal cylinder, then determine its density, and use a chart of known metal densities to determine its identity and the percent error of our measurements.

John Riley (8th Grade): jriley@cardinalritter.org

In 8th Grade Science, we have started our Chemistry Unit! Students are learning about and differentiating between atoms, elements, compounds and molecules. In the upcoming week, students will complete a Chemistry Lego Lab, learn about the organization and structure of the atom and learning about the patterns present in the Periodic Table of Elements.

In 7th Grade A: We are wrapping up our Unit 2 about exponents and Scientific Notation and taking a test on it this Thursday. We will then go into our 3rd unit about solving equations for the first time. We will review order of operations and then reverse them to solve for our variable.

In Pre-Algebra & 7th Grade A+: We are starting our third unit about functions and linear functions. We will build up our knowledge and identify if a function table is linear or not. We will then go into completing tables of functions. Then we will finish our unit with graphing linear functions on graph paper.
