Romance Travel has Never Been Bigger, and Advisors Are Loving It


Post-pandemic romance travel is booming, and evolving, as travelers place more value on spending time together and are no longer waiting for milestone moments to get away with loved ones.


A 2023 Deloitte holiday travel study found that romance and quality time with a partner or spouse outpaced revenge travel as a travel motivator, something echoed by romance travel specialists who experienced a surge in 2023 bookings.

American Airlines Raises Checked

Luggage Fees


Many people flying with American Airlines will have to fork over more money to check their bags.

The Texas-based airline on Tuesday unveiled increases in fees many customers will have to pay for first and second checked bags that went into effect. Previously, the checked bag fee for domestic flights was a flat $30 at the counter and online. American upped how much it charges for a first bag checked at airport counters from $30 to $40. Fees for bags checked online increased to $35. The cost of all second bags is $45 for domestic flights, up from $40.

Airbnb Co-Hosting Services

Airbnb is looking to expand co-hosting, which some homeowners use to manage their listings if they don’t want to do it themselves, or if they don’t live in the area. Co-hosts can greet guests when they arrive, as well as handle issues and any inquiries that arise during the stay. Airbnb plans to connect hosts to co-hosts, Mertz said.

Colleges Are Using AI to Prepare Hospitality Workers of the Future


AI could not only reduce the number of jobs, but it has already begun to change the way existing jobs are done by handling tasks such as guest check-ins, customer inquiries and the like. For that reason, in the hospitality industry of the future, rather than people who interact with customers, the industry will need more data analysts, AI managers and people who can provide tech support. That’s because AI can perform routine and repetitive tasks, such as booking reservations and answering customer inquiries.

Chosen Family brings together the work of three sets of emerging African American artists who are also close friends: Omari Jesse, Bria Edwards, and Olivia Bruce; Wesley Clark and Rodney (Buck!) Herring; Austin (Auz) Miles and Angelique Scott. Through their art, viewers are given an intimate look into their friendships which have grown and evolved over several years, some from childhood. They have developed their artistic practice, supported one another through triumphs and failures, and at times, have even been each other’s muses.

Artists on the Rise: Juried Teen Exhibition Public Reception


Montpelier Arts Center strives to foster a positive, creative

environment in which young and emerging artists realize their

full potential as creative individuals. Every year Montpelier

spotlights the talents of teen visual artists (ages 13-18) from

the Washington metropolitan area. Beginning in winter 2023,

interested teens may submit work for consideration online at

Sharon Sefton: The Simple News that

Nature Told


Working in varied mediums, printmaking allows Sharon Hart

Sefton to utilize both her love of drawing and painting. She

creates nature portraits of landscapes, plants, and animals

for which she has a deep appreciation. Some artworks in the

show are inspired by the Victorian poetry of Emily Dickinson.

You will see Dickinson's appreciation of botany and love of

gardening reflected in the exhibition.

Akua Allrich


Born and raised in Washington, D.C., musician, vocalist, percussionist, and composer Akua Allrich attended Howard University where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Jazz Studies. Inspired by artists such as Nina Simone and Miriam Makeba, Allrich often infuses her work with elements of African genres and American soul. She sings

in the many languages of contemporary jazz, including Zulu, Xhosa, Portuguese, French, Spanish, and English. Experience the wide variety Allrich has to offer. We look forward to seeing you!

As an eight-time Grammy Award nominee, Ledisi has captured attention around the world, thanks to her expressive jazz-influenced voice and well-produced albums that boldly tackle personal subject matter. When on tour, Ledisi often collaborates with a large backup band, which creates a full, multi-layered sound that's a treat for the ears of every ticket holder in attendance..

Laugh House Presents Von Decarlo


Von Decarlo is a New York-bred stand-up comedian, producer, writer, and actress who has appeared in worldwide ad campaigns and national commercials for Disney, GNC, Match, and Carnival Cruise lines. She performed in Montreal for Kevin Hart's LOL Network as well as the Lil' Rel and Friends show at the Just For Laughs comedy festival, and most recently in Australia for the Human Kind Festival. Additional appearances include HBO's Pause with Sam Jay, Laff Mobb's Laff Tracks on Tru TV and HBO Max, CNN's year-end wrap-up special, The Breakfast Club, Angela Yee's Lip Service, Sirius XM’s Urban View and NBA channel, In Godfrey We Trust Podcast, and more.

Tribute to the Music of Stephanie Mills featuring Carmen Craven


Carmen Craven is an accomplished vocalist who has been singing, dancing, and acting since the age of two. Carmen is a native of Tampa, Florida who now resides in the D.C. Metropolitan area. She started her singing career in the gospel genre but has expanded her performances to other musical genres. In 1995, Carmen won a singing competition at Che LaBelle’s, a local nightspot in Philadelphia owned by, Ms. Patti LaBelle. As a result of winning that competition, from 1995-1997, Carmen toured throughout the U.S. and abroad with Ms. LaBelle as a background vocalist, performing to sold-out arenas.

Ekaterina Kotcherguina


Praised for her fresh and exuberant stage presence,

soprano Ekaterina Kotcherguina is a flexible performer,

equally compelling when portraying light-hearted damsels or

tragic heroines. Ms. Kotcherguina has performed Schubert's

Mass in G Major with the Longmont Symphony Orchestra,

and concerts with the Boulder Chamber Orchestra, Boulder

Opera Company, Seicento Baroque Ensemble, Boulder Bach

Festival, as well as chamber and solo recitals across the

Colorado Front Range, Arkansas, Virginia, France, and Russia.

Pianist Hyemin Jeong is in demand as an opera pianist and

coach.

New Healthy Options Coming to Prince George's County as March 20 is Named "MeatOut Day"


PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, Md. — The Prince George’s Council is urging citizens to abstain from eating meat and consider available alternatives. 

To encourage residents to try a different lifestyle, the county has adopted March 20 as “MeatOut Day”. In 1985, MeatOut began empowering thousands of people nationwide to explore the benefits of plant-based eating. 



Spice Kitchen West African Grill Opens Restaurant Next to New Lidl Near Hyattsville


Spice Kitchen West African Grill has gone from a ghost kitchen to a kiosk in a food hall to now its own restaurant.

After a successful run as a tenant at the miXt Food Hall in Brentwood, the popular West African eatery has moved into its own space at 3124 Queens Chapel Rd., in the same shopping center as the new Lidl, which opened its doors on Valentine’s Day.

Washington Commanders Announce Significant Upgrades to Stadium


The Washington Commanders announced additional upgrades to FedExField, bringing targeted investments in improving the stadium and fan and player experience to a total of more than $75 million once completed since new ownership purchased the team in July. The upgrades will be noticeable from the moment fans enter the parking lots and include faster entry into the stadium, new premium seating options and suite experiences, improved food and beverage options, and sound system upgrades.

Maryland Public Television’s (MPT) original series Maryland Farm & Harvest, now in its 11th season, will feature farms and locations in Prince George’s, Caroline, Talbot, and Wicomico counties during an episode premiering on Tuesday, January 30.
