Research Study: Rewarding Mice
Adele Stewart, Ph.D., research assistant professor, Charles E. Schmidt College of Medicine, and FAU researchers found that a mutated dopamine transporter in mouse models resulted in changes in impulsivity and cognitive performance when given rewards. The findings, published in the journal Neurotransmitter Transporters in Health and Disease, show that the mutated mice represent a model for how changes in dopamine signaling can disrupt brain function that normally balances habitual and goal-directed behaviors.
