Fall is in the air here at South and your student has made it halfway through the semester! Our USA community recently celebrated the Inauguration of President Jo Bonner. This is an exciting time on-campus!

Mid-term grades will post soon and registration for Spring 2023 will open toward the end of the month. Check out upcoming events, important dates, and student support services that can help your student stay on track for their academic success.

Bonner Inaugurated as Fourth President

President Jo Bonner gives his inaugural address at the Mitchell Center on Friday. "The University of South Alabama is poised and ready to become the Flagship of the Gulf Coast," he announced.

Spring Registration

Spring 2023 course registration for current students will begin the last week of October. Each semester, your student will be assigned a time ticket that specifies the date and time when they can access PAWS to register for the approaching semester. Students will be issued their time ticket on October 10, 2022. Click here for more information.

Academic Advising

It is important that your student connects with their academic advisor in a timely manner to ensure they secure their course schedule.

Academic advising is the process where students obtain the critical information they need to make thoughtful decisions about their college career, such as deciding upon their major or solving any roadblocks they may encounter along the way.

An academic advisor’s purpose is to encourage students to develop as self-directed learners and decision makers.

JagPantry

Launched in 2017, the JagPantry is a support resource for students experiencing food insecurity. Available 24 hours a day, the JagPantry provides short-term relief by offering fresh and packaged foods as well as vital toiletries and hygiene products.

Studies have shown that a student's academic success may be affected if they are struggling with hunger or other basic needs. It is important that students feel valued, respected, and supported during this hardship.

Meet the Majors

Is your student still trying to determine which major to declare? Or are they unsure if they want to continue in their current major? Maybe wondering what their minor should be?

If so, then we have the perfect event for them! The Meet the Majors Academic Tailgate is a great opportunity for your student to explore the different majors offered at South in a fun and interactive way.

Homecoming at South Alabama is our annual tradition to celebrate Jaguar pride and spirit! Homecoming week for 2022 is October 10 - 15. The experience features a lineup of events open to the entire Jaguar community. The Homecoming festivities will commence Saturday at Hancock Whitney Stadium when our Jags battle against University of Louisiana Monroe.
