Kelli Maxwell Named Associate Dean of Student Success

Dietrich College has named Kelli Maxwell as the next associate dean of Student Success. In this role, Maxwell will lead the college’s efforts on holistic student advising, academic support and experiential learning.

Faculty Spotlight: Francesca Zaffora Blando

Francesca Zaffora Blando, assistant professor in the Department of Philosophy, specializes in logic, formal epistemology and the philosophy of probability. Much of her work focuses on algorithmic randomness, a branch of logic that studies the concept of randomness from the perspective of the theory of computation.

Largest Study to Date Identifies New Autism Genes

Autism spectrum disorder affects about 2% of children in the United States. While most cases are inherited, a small number of cases are a result of rare genetic variations. Kathryn Roeder, the UPMC Professor of Statistics and Life Sciences in the Department of Statistics & Data Science, is the co-senior author on the largest study to date to explore the genetics behind autism.

CMU Students Engage Pittsburgh Communities

Dietrich College welcomes the first cohort of students in the community-based Research-to-Practice program through the Center for Shared Prosperity. Six students received funding to create their own projects, inspired by their interests, and coordinate with local community-based organizations in the greater Pittsburgh region.
