Happy Summer! We are delighted to welcome you to the Museum to see At First Light: Two Centuries of Artists in Maine, a survey of artmaking created here in Maine. Originally intended to mark the bicentennial of statehood in 2020, the exhibition has been further enriched and includes works from the early nineteenth century to the present day. A rich array of programming complements the show this month. Come enjoy concerts by members of the Bowdoin International Music Festival and presentations by photographer Walter Smalling and art historian William Cross. Also, special family-oriented events offer a chance to create artworks of your own! As the nation celebrates Independence Day and our national commitment to liberty and equality, we also share below our thoughts and plans to ensure ongoing equity and inclusion at the Museum.

We look forward to seeing you in the galleries!
