The City of Greater Sudbury - News and Updates

A Message From the Mayor

January is about fresh beginnings and renewed energy. A new calendar year provides the opportunity to refocus on the future with optimism and positivity.

My key priorities for the start of 2024 include housing, community engagement and economic renewal.

Later this month, the draft Housing Supply Strategy will be presented to Council. This report combines background studies, new analysis and an action plan to encourage residential development all along the housing spectrum.

With respect to supportive and transitional housing, the City will continue to invest in additional units that provide onsite wrap-around clinical and social services in partnership with Health Sciences North.

We will also be announcing a new approach to facilitate engagement with volunteers, non-profits and other community groups. A dedicated team will work directly with these groups to navigate the various city resources and departments as they assist in the achievement of their desired goals.

You may begin to notice some changes to the downtown skyline; in the coming months, Council will review options for a downtown Arena and Event Centre, as well as detailed project plans for the Cultural Hub at Tom Davies Square.

I look forward to continuing to work together as we make good things happen here in Greater Sudbury in 2024.

Spike is a three-year-old, medium mixed breed, who is described as a playful and affectionate guy with a ton of character.

He enjoys the company of people and most other dogs. He enjoys going for walks, however, he prefers to spend his free time lounging on the dog bed with one of his favourite toys.
