Chessie Alberti: Encouraging expression, community at LBCC Writing Center
"Most of what I’m doing as an educator in writing is helping people capture their thoughts,” said Chessie Alberti, LBCC instructional specialist and Writing Center coordinator. Alberti spends anywhere from 25-75% of her time working one-on-one with students. In her remaining hours she trains, leads, and mentors a team of seven other writing assistants, and serves on the leadership team for the Learning Center, among other duties.
'We offer classes from A to Z": Community Education co-coordinator loves lifelong learning
Ryan Kinnett is a believer in lifelong learning. That’s why, five years ago, he jumped at the opportunity to be a coordinator for the community education program at Linn-Benton Community College. Kinnett and the college’s other community education coordinator, Sue Stone, build the program together each term. They interview instructors, set the schedule and organize the classes. Kinnett’s focus is art, music and fitness and Stone covers gardening, languages and computers and technology.
LBCC President Emeritus Greg Hamann inducted into the American Association of Community Colleges Hall of Fame
The American Association of Community Colleges (AACC) has announced Dr. Greg Hamann as one of six new members of its national Hall of Fame and earning the 2022 Leadership Award. Dr. Hamann is the president-emeritus of Linn-Benton Community College (LBCC) in Albany, Oregon, where he served as LBCC president for 10 years before retiring in 2020.
Linn-Benton Community College Named 2022 Community College Innovation Challenge (CCIC) Finalist
Linn-Benton Community College is one of 12 finalist teams that will advance to the next phase of the Community College Innovation Challenge (CCIC), which is sponsored by the American Association of Community Colleges and the National Science Foundation! The CCIC is a national competition where community college student teams, working with a faculty team mentor, use science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) to innovate solutions to real-world problems. Finalists attend an Innovation Boot Camp to share their ideas with experts and practitioners in the field and compete for cash prizes.
