DR. LISA AVERY,
LBCC PRESIDENT
Dear community,
It’s nearly time for my favorite moment in the academic year: welcoming new college graduates to our community! This year LBCC will celebrate with our second “CARmencement” event – a drive-thru celebration on our campus where students follow a route flanked by cheering faculty, staff, friends and family and take “one last lap” around campus before receiving their diplomas. Last year, we began this event as a creative approach to lowering COVID risk as much as possible, while still providing a festive and memorable ceremony.

Chessie Alberti: Encouraging expression, community at LBCC Writing Center
|
"Most of what I’m doing as an educator in writing is helping people capture their thoughts,” said Chessie Alberti, LBCC instructional specialist and Writing Center coordinator. Alberti spends anywhere from 25-75% of her time working one-on-one with students. In her remaining hours she trains, leads, and mentors a team of seven other writing assistants, and serves on the leadership team for the Learning Center, among other duties.

'We offer classes from A to Z": Community Education co-coordinator loves lifelong learning
|
Ryan Kinnett is a believer in lifelong learning. That’s why, five years ago, he jumped at the opportunity to be a coordinator for the community education program at Linn-Benton Community College. Kinnett and the college’s other community education coordinator, Sue Stone, build the program together each term. They interview instructors, set the schedule and organize the classes. Kinnett’s focus is art, music and fitness and Stone covers gardening, languages and computers and technology.
