The Season after Pentecost

Arts Camp Begins Today (Friday, July 29)
Arts Camp is in session! If you are on campus Friday, Saturday or Sunday, be aware that the building will be inhabited by energetic young folks who are wielding musical instruments, spatulas, paint brushes, and who-knows-what-sorts of dramatic props. All the motion and laughter is an incubator for individual and community creativity; wish them well and admire their works if you get a chance!

Sunday Worship (with COVID Update)
Grace continues on its summer worship schedule this week with one service at 10:00 a.m. Those who are not able to join us in the flesh are invited to take part in either the live-stream feed or the recording of the service, both available through our Facebook page. You can find the bulletin for the service HERE.

The Hamilton County Health Department confirmed on Friday what the CDC indicated a few weeks ago -- Hamilton County is back in the red zone in viral transmission. This level is one at which they urge the use of masks for indoor public gatherings. Grace is not currently requiring masks, but we want everyone to be aware of the current situation and thus be equipped to make informed decisions.
School-Related Outreach
School Supplies

Green Grace is sponsoring a Back to School supply drive starting Sunday the 17th through Sunday, August 7th.  Please bring any of the items below to donate to our local schools:

  • Pencils
  • Crayola Crayons
  • Crayola Markers
  • Notebooks
  • Kleenex
  • Hand Sanitizer
  • Folders
  • Glue sticks

A collection box has been placed in the Narthex this Sunday for the supplies.

School Uniform/Clothes Swap

Saturday, 6 August. This will overlap Farmers Market hours 10:00 am until 1:00 pm in our Pavilion. This is a one-day event. Anyone can drop off school clothes and uniform pieces (mostly solid polo shirts and black, navy, tan pants), and then rummage for what they need. Clothes brought in to swap/donate must be clean and serviceable. Leftovers will be dropped at area schools for their own clothes closets. Donations needed include kid-sized white or black t -shirts and small-sized belts.
Forward Day by Day -- New Issue Available
Miraculously, both the small and the large-print Forward Day by Day magazines for August, September and October have arrived well before the dawn of August! You may pick up a free copy in whichever size suits you at church this Sunday and anytime thereafter. If you are currently unable to come to church or are taking isolating precautions against B5, you can take advantage of the scanned versions below or access it through Forward Movement's website.

Grace Dramatists -- Last Chance!
Two members of Grace are starring in local theatrical productions this month.  Amber McClane is performing in Matilda at the Signal Mountain Playhouse. Remaining performances are scheduled for July 29 and 30.  Tickets can only be purchased in-person at this outdoor amphitheater. Ticket sales begin at 6pm, and performances begin at 8pm. Picnics are welcome, as are camping chairs.

Jackie Manning is starring in Spongebob Musical at the Catoosa Colonnade in performances on July 29, 30 and 31. Tickets may be purchased here. Come out and support local theatre and talented members of our Grace community.
Food Pantry
Wednesday's pantry session was an aerobic workout for stalwart volunteers Jim Dorris, Jim Harris, Dixie Riall, and Thomas Evans; visitors broke upon our shores like stormy waves, and by 1 p.m., we had greeted 39 visitors and sent them home with food for 126 -- 74 adults and 52 children (total 126). Mercifully, we started out very well stocked and were able to provide for them adequately. At the moment, however, the pantry looks like someone picked it up and dumped its contents into the sea.

Most needed this week are:

* peanut butter (none left -- 16 oz. jars preferred)
* canned chicken (8 cans left)
* Spam or similar (5 cans left)
* canned tuna (9 cans left)
* hearty soups (beef, none left; chicken, a few cans)
* spaghetti noodles, 16 oz. size (18 packets left)
* spaghetti sauce (15 left)
* boxes of mac and cheese (a small huddle remains)
* canned fruit (2 cans left)
* dog food (none left)

We are also trying to beef up our collection of travel-size toiletry items, so if any of you who soaps, shampoos, razors, deodorants and toothpaste/toothbrushes languishing unused in a drawer or cabinet, we would gladly receive them.

Thanks to all who, in the face of such constant demand, keep donating goods and money to keep us fighting fit and able to take arms against the slings and arrows of outrageous hunger. Grace folks and Belvoir neighbors are showing extraordinary compassion through the support of this ministry, and we are very grateful indeed for all your aid.
A Note from the Treasurer
During the summer months, many of us enjoy time away from work and other activities. Please remember that our church continues to serve parish needs as well as those of the larger community. If you have your pledge set for automatic payment, thank you! If not, please remember that our overhead expenses continue through the summer and we are in need of your support. The June financials showed us a bit under budget for pledged support and we would love to end the summer closer to our projected numbers. Remember, you can give online at saygrace.net.

Thank you so much.

Keep in Mind
Keycard Reader Still on the Disabled List

Alas, the keycard reader on the front door of the church is still languishing on its bed of sickness (in spite of having been bidden to take up its pallet and walk). Smacking it and yelling "Be Healed!" has failed to help, as has a drenching with chicken soup. Further updates to come.

Brainerd Market (Saturdays, 10 a.m.-noon, Brainerd Road parking lot)

The farmers’ market features fresh local produce, meats, eggs, breads, local honey,  jams & jellies, live plants, arts and crafts, wonderful foods and so much more! All of the farm fresh products at the market are naturally grown, free of pesticides, GMO's and antibiotics!

Market Vendors accept CASH, DEBIT/CREDIT & EBT/SNAP for eligible items. Double SNAP Dollar available every Saturday on EBT/SNAP purchase up to $20.
