Curley Family Weekly Bulletin

Week of April 15-21, 2024

See below to find out what is happening at Curley!

From the President

If you have not already heard it somewhere, I would like to share that on April 9th it was announced that Fr. Michael Martin, OFM Conv., a 1979 graduate of Curley, who later served at the school as a teacher, admissions director, coach, principal and president (he left Curley in 2010) was named the new bishop of Charlotte, NC. The Bishop-elect is the first Curley alumnus to serve as a bishop, and we wish him well. I hope all of us can remember him in prayer as he prepares to undertake this challenging ministry, as well as during this preparation time (he will be ordained as a bishop and installed in the diocese on May 29). It’s been great to see “Curley” posted in so many news reports! I hope you will join “in spirit” as we celebrate Cornerstone Day on April 17; Curley opened in September 1961 but was officially blessed and dedicated on April 17, 1962.

-- Fr. Donald '70

From the Principal

As we prepare to celebrate Cornerstone Day, I find myself reflecting on the many people who have shaped my own Curley experience. I think of my teachers and my classmates from my high school days. I think of the friars, my colleagues, our families, and our students who all shape and define our school. Certainly there are some who have played significant roles. We honor just a few of them during our liturgy on April 17. I thank them and all of the individuals who serve as cornerstones of our school community.

We wish all the best to the members of the Choir who are participating in the Spring Choir Camp early next week. We also give our best wishes to the Curley Bands as they travel to Nashville for the annual Band Trip.

Archbishop's Holiday April 22, 2024 -- School Closed

When Archbishop Lori celebrated Ash Wednesday liturgy with us, he generously gave Archbishop Curley High School an “Archbishop’s Holiday.” He stated that the specific day off would be determined by the school’s administration. Therefore, Monday, April 22, 2024, will be a holiday. There will be no classes that day and the offices will be closed. Athletic events will proceed as scheduled.

From the Assistant Principal of Academics

I hope each of you had a wonderful Easter. We are on the countdown to the end of the year. We will be posting the A.P. Exam schedule, the Senior Exam schedule, and the Final Exam schedule over the next few weeks. Please remind your son(s) to check Plus Portals on a regular basis and to see their teacher(s) if they have questions. I also encourage them to see their teachers for extra support and help if they are struggling in any of their courses. The 4th quarter is very short for our seniors making this even more important. My door is always open if they ever need anything.

From the Campus Minister

All Mission-4-Service hours must be submitted on the Google Classroom designated for Mission-4-Service by April 22. If you are concerned if your son has submitted his hours, you can ask to see his Google Classroom page. You can also email Friar Chris with any questions. Any student who does not submit their service hours by April 22 will receive a significant academic penalty in their theology class and will become ineligible until successful completion of their hours.

Technology Program Updates and Links

As a reminder, Archbishop Curley High School will be initiating a Bring Your Own Windows Device (BYOWD) program for all incoming freshmen in the Class of 2028. We will also begin to phase out the current iPad Program. For all returning students in the Classes of 2025, 2026, and 2027, this will not affect your ability to utilize your iPad or require you to purchase a different device. Your son will be able to continue with his iPad for the remainder of his academic career at Archbishop Curley High School.

Under the BYOWD initiative, members of the Class of 2028 are required to bring their own Windows-based laptops to school. Students in the Classes of 2025, 2026, and 2027, may choose (but will not be required) to bring their own Windows device to school starting in the fall. A flier with all of the specifications can be found HERE

Curley has partnered with Whiteford Systems as our school's designated vendor. If you wish to order a device through them, then please note that the ordering portal is now open: https://whitefordsystems.com/curley. This portal closes on April 30th.

Additionally, based on the feedback and inquiries we received, we are announcing that we have included a touchscreen option for the higher-end model. While a touchscreen is not mandatory, we are committed to offering our students a wide range of options to enhance their learning experience. This feature allows students the flexibility to take notes directly on the screen, among other functionalities, should they prefer.

Should you have any questions or need further assistance, please feel free to reach out to our Technology department at support@archbishopcurley.org.
