“Dearest Friend
The Day; perhaps the decisive Day is come on which the fate of America depends, my bursting Heart must find vent at my pen. I have just heard that our dear Friend Dr. Warren is no more but fell gloriously fighting for his country...”

A view of the country round Boston, taken from Beacon Hill: showing the lines, intrenchments, redoubts, &c. of the rebels, also the line and redoubts of His Majesty's troops
|
This is one of a four-part ink and watercolor painting depicting a panoramic view from Beacon Hill, Boston, as seen by Lt. Richard Williams and Lt. William Wood of the 23rd Regiment of Foot (the Royal Welsh Fusiliers) during the siege of Boston in 1775. Each panel includes a numeric key to the major military and civilian locations shown in the illustrations, and they were probably made in the late summer or early fall of 1775.
