What is a Limited Submission?
A limited submission solicitation (RFA, RFP, etc.) places a cap on the number of proposals that Auburn may submit to a sponsor. Auburn coordinates limited submissions by sending out a notification via this newsletter and creating competitions in the Auburn University Competition Space (also known as InfoReady). To apply to any limited submission posted in this newsletter, click on the link below and search for your competition listed on the page. Please refer to the Limited Submission Procedures page for a list of requirements.

Since the 2015-2016 academic year, the LAUNCH Innovation Grants Program has provided 20 awards totaling over $750,000 to Auburn PIs to further develop their innovations to advance them towards commercialization. While many of these projects are ongoing, six of them have successfully advanced towards the market in the form of license deals or follow-on funding.
The Office of Innovation Advancement and Commercialization, or IAC, announced that the 2022-2023 LAUNCH Awards will again use the accelerated timeline introduced last year. This allows for earlier access to funds for award winners. Instead of running across both fall and spring semesters, awards will be determined before Thanksgiving.
For more details on LAUNCH and on this year's schedule, go to IAC's LAUNCH webpage. Please note that any LAUNCH applications must be related to an invention disclosure already on record and active with IAC.

Building a Research Agenda — How Does the Water Flow?
A Virtual Stakeholder Engagement Workshop
August 11, 2022, 1:00-3:00 pm ET
ORAU’s Research and University Partnerships Office, in partnership with Florida State University (FSU), is hosting a virtual stakeholder engagement workshop on Water Quality and Public Health. We invite interested faculty, researchers, and students at your institution to attend this event focused on discussing research gaps and frameworks to advance water quality science. The President’s Executive Order lays out a responsibility to “improve public health and the environment; to ensure access to clean air and water; and to limit exposure to dangerous chemicals and pesticides.” The Administration is establishing an Office of Environmental Justice within the Department of Health and Human Services, which will focus on climate change impacts to the environment and associated impacts to health based on where people spend most of their time.
Developing the Research Agenda and How You Can Help: To develop a comprehensive research agenda, ORAU and FSU are interested in gaining your input on how we can adequately address the following questions:
- What should the research areas be?
- What questions should the government and/or academia be asking?
- What are possible priorities for future research?
- What strategies/approaches/challenges should be proposed for possible projects?
ORAU and FSU want to lay the foundation for where academic research and government operations and services need to be in 5, 10, and 20 years. The output of this Research Agenda is designed to inform the government and academia and set up the framework for more detailed research to support the Improvement of our nation’s health and environment.

The NIH Office of Science Policy (OSP) and the Office of Extramural Research (OER) invite you to join them for an informative webinar series focused on the new NIH Data Management and Sharing (DMS) Policy which goes into effect on January 25, 2023. This policy reinforces NIH’s longstanding commitment to making the research it funds available to the public and sets the baseline expectation that sharing data is a fundamental component of the research process.
Registration is now open for this 2-part series. Registration is required separately for each webinar.
Understanding the New NIH Data Management and Sharing (DMS) Policy
Thursday, August 11; 1:30 – 3:00 PM ET
- In this first webinar of the series, you will learn about DMS policy expectations, the applicability of the policy, how to prepare a Data Management and Sharing Plan, and considerations for sharing data responsibly.
Diving Deeper into the New NIH Data Management and Sharing Policy
Thursday, September 22; 1:30 – 3:00 PM EST
- In this second webinar of the series, we will expand upon the information presented in the first webinar and dive deeper into topics including privacy protections for data from human participants and justifiable limitations on sharing data.

The purpose of this funding opportunity announcement is to solicit Technology Research and Development Center (TRDC) applications for the Point-of-Care Technologies Research Network (POCTRN). The POCTRN catalyzes innovation in diagnostic technologies through a network model that enhances complementary strengths and builds multidisciplinary partnerships across scientific/technological, clinical, regulatory, and commercialization domains. Each TRDC will accelerate the development, validation, and deployment of point-of-care, home-based and other innovative testing technologies in a specific area of health research. The POCTRN TRDCs will merge scientific and technological capabilities and expertise with clinical need and market demand to address unmet testing, monitoring, and treatment demands.

CZI seeks applications for projects that aim to use and gain insights into health and disease from existing single-cell datasets to help accelerate progress toward challenges associated with the compilation and exploration of large atlas-scale data. Given the growth of single-cell biology and the rapid increase in available data, CZI is looking to support projects that will advance the fields of single-cell biology and data science. Grantees will be expected to interact with a network among participating groups that builds community and accelerates progress. Applications are encouraged from computational experts outside the field of single-cell biology but with expertise relevant to overcoming current bottlenecks. Projects may include dedicated efforts to refine existing computational tools, benchmark classes of tools, improve standards, integrate available data that enables greater biological insight, develop new features that support interoperability of data or tools, and other major challenges brought forward.
