Rebuild Restore Renew

This month we begin our reflection on the third and final “R” of Resurrection … Renew. The past two months have focused on Rebuild and Restore, and now we will begin our Renewal. And what better way to focus our attention than through our very own Baptismal Covenant:

“Let us join with those who are committing themselves to Christ and renew our own baptismal covenant … Will you continue in the Apostles’ teaching and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in the prayers?” This question is based on Acts 2:42, when, on the day of Pentecost, 3000 people listened to Peter’s teaching, repented of their sins, were baptized, and received the gift of the Holy Spirit. And then “They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers.”

So, how do we renew our devotion to the teaching of the apostles and fellowship, the breaking of bread and the prayers? Well, the teaching of the apostles has been preserved for us in the New Testament, so let us renew our commitment to reading, studying, and inwardly digesting the teaching of the apostles as it has been given to us in the Gospels and the Epistles. And let’s do that in fellowship with one another through our Prince of Peace community. The pandemic has certainly put constraints on our fellowship with our parish family, and, while Zoom and live streaming is certainly convenient, it is not the same as being in the actual presence of other fellow believers.

And what about the breaking of bread and the prayers? How do we renew such practices? Well, the breaking of bread is, of course, the Eucharist that we celebrate as often as possible, and it is also the breaking of bread with one another. Having a meal with our fellow travelers and enjoying their company and companionship. And what better way to renew and refresh our prayer lives than praying over a meal that we are sharing with someone who is on the Way with us. So, as we slowly emerge from the isolation of the pandemic, let us all renew our relationship with one another as we renew our Baptismal Covenant.

Warm greetings in the name of the Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit. My children, along with my wife and I would like to thank you for the many prayers, your patience, kindness, mercy, grace and the generosity you have rendered to us. What a privilege it has been to share the journey with you. I count it among my deepest joys. Even in sad times, what a blessing it has been to support each other in these moments. Our lives have been interwoven in the fabric of faithful Service to our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Thanks again for love and many thanks to my great mentor, Fr Rand, and my fellow ministers of the Word. You need always to remember that you will always be part of my life continuously as the Lord leads.

I bring to your attention that God has given me an opportunity to serve at the Church of the Holy Communion in Gardina for approximately three months as their Supply Priest while their priest is going on sabbatical leave. I will miss you but will be available for some occasions as this is my home. Thanks for all your Godly love and we will continue to be in touch. May you continue to grow in faith, hope, and love, worshiping the Lord with all your heart and mind.

Sincerely,

The Rev. Onesmus Tayebwa and Family.

Let us all thank Margie and “Church” Mike Pavlowsky for their love and dedication in serving as our preschool teachers for 21 amazing years! It is so fitting we CELEBRATE and HONOR them this Pentecost Sunday. We praise God for filling us with the Holy Spirit and empowering Mike and Margie to reflect your love to our precious children. Join us for cake and rejoice with them in the patio after the 10am worship service.

As you may have guessed, Spirit is our word for the week! We will re-create a little bit of that first Pentecost and celebrate the beginning of the Christian Church. This story reminds us that God’s Spirit is active, moving and powerful – something to be in awe of.
