NOTE: Washington County Land Use & Transportation offices will be closed Monday, May 29, for Memorial Day.

Drive safe this Memorial Day weekend

Are you taking a trip this weekend to kick of the start of summer? Take precautions before you hit the road so this holiday weekend stays safe and fun.

Plan your route before leaving by checking TripCheck and wc-roads.com and allow for extra travel time. Try to avoid peak travel times, including this afternoon (Friday).

Make sure you have a full tank of gas and an emergency kit including water, a flashlight and a first aid kit. Check your oil, put air in the tires and make sure your vehicle is in driving condition.

Buckle up, follow speed limits and avoid distractions. If you do end up in a traffic jam, remain patient and drive defensively. Never drive drunk or high. If you are attending a holiday celebration with alcohol or drugs, have a designated driver or plan other transportation options.
