Study Time Matters

As schoolwork intensifies your student may struggle with time management. However, it's not just about how much time they study, it's when, where, what, and why they are studying. This article has tips on how your student can use their time to stay on track and how to be productive.

We have so many resources on campus to support your student, please encourage your student to use any resources they feel might be helpful. Here are some resources your student may be interested in:

  • Tutoring Center-  free drop-in tutoring, study groups, and one-on-one tutoring. Students can also work with a tutor to improve study skills, test-taking strategies, and time management.
  • Speech and Presentation Center- assists students in writing and preparing presentations and speeches.
  • Disability Support Center- support and services for students with disabilities who are overcoming different educational difficulties because of their individual challenges.
  • Reach out to their Academic Advisor for support, guidance in creating an academic plan, and preparing for graduation.

  • Professor office hours- these are posted days and times that professors are available in their office to meet with students and answer questions. Office hours are listed on the course syllabus in Canvas. Students should come prepared with specific questions or concerns related to the class.

  • Writing Center- free writing help for students of any major. Their website also includes writing tips and scheduling for online or in-person appointments.

  • Tutoring Center Online Resources- includes videos, worksheets, and links to help students improve study skills, test-taking strategies, and study strategies.
  • Gerald R. Sherratt Library- quiet study areas, print papers, get research help, reserve a study room, use a computer, make copies, check out calculators, Ipads, textbooks, and books.
  • Schedule a Career Assessment with the Career Center to explore strengths and career pathways. This is a great resource for students considering a change of major or trying to figure out a career path with their major.
  • Form a study group with peers from the class.
  • Schedule a meeting with their ACE (peer mentor). Stop by the Nest, Student Center room 148, visit the Nest website or call 435-865-8752 with any questions.

Some questions you could ask your student if they are struggling with classes:

  • "What are you enjoying most about your classes?"
  • "Are you attending class regularly?"
  • '"How are you managing your time?"
  • "Have you visited the tutoring center?"
  • "Do you set aside time for each class during the day to get your work done?"
  • "Have you gone to your Professor's office hours and discussed your struggles with their class?"

The Health and Wellness Center now has bi-tapps! These devices use bilateral stimulation to help relieve anxiety, improve focus and bring your mind to the present. They come with clothing clips and wristbands and are available to check out in the Health and Wellness Center for 2 weeks.

-We also have sun therapy lamps!
