Boys Soccer:

Game #1 12/2/22 VS Saint John Bosco WIN 1 - 0

2022 -2023 kicks off with Coach Shumaker starting his 30th season and Coach Santiago starting his 25th season with Boy’s soccer. The season's first home game vs Saint John Bosco. The teams are ready to play as the rain starts and both teams battle from the starting whistle. Hard physical play by both teams, it takes till 34:00 minute when on an assist from Nathan Buehler, Kenneth Flores scores for Fullerton, the game's first and only goal. The second half sees both teams having chances but neither team finds the back of the net. With two minutes left in the game Bosco scores, but the goal is called offside and does not count. FHS wins a hard-fought game that sees the defense step up and keeps Bosco in check. The FHS Goalkeeper Declan Campbell finishes with 6 great saves and the Tribe wins the first game of the season 1 - 0. Frosh/Soph wins 2-1 while JV wins 3-1.

Game #2 12/7/22 VS Santa Ana Valley

Fullerton was in for a battle because Santa Ana Valley came into the game 5 - 0.

The game started off fast and physical, Fullerton struck first, when in the 11:00 minute, on a pass from Kenneth Flores, Talon Okert hit a rocket in the goal. Both teams had good ball control and traded shots, FUHS's defense held tight. Fullerton scores in the 35:00 minute when Kenneth Flores fights his way for the game's second goal. 2:00 minutes later Kenneth passes to Aiden Bengard who secures the game's third goal. The half ends Fullerton up 3-0. In the second half, FUHS controls the game and their defense locks up the season's second win. A GREAT Fullerton night, Frosh-Soph ties 1-1, and JV tied at 0’s. FHS varsity defense shines with the team's second shutout. Kenneth Flores gets a goal and 2 assists.

Girls Soccer:

Game 4 12/6/22 vs Kaiser WIN 3 - 1

The Girl’s first home game vs Kaiser from Fontana. Both teams are evenly matched, but Kaiser scores first with a goal in the 24:00 minute. Fullerton dominates time of ball possession, but a defensive breakdown puts Kaiser on the board first. Halftime sees Fullerton regroup and 4:00 minutes into the second half on a Griselda Tellez pass to Janelle Flores, FHS is on the scoreboard. Not to be stopped FHS scores the team's second goal in the 56:00 when Hailey Won passes to Janelle Flores for her second goal of the game. Fullerton keeps pressure on the Cats and gets the final goal with only 2:00 minutes left in the game. Amber Boland passes Kayla Lee who finds the back of the net. Fullerton gets its first win of the season 3 - 1.

Game 5 12/8 22 vs Calvary LOST 4 - 2

The girls battled and played hard, but a defensive error resulted in the game's first goal for Calvary. Fullerton showed their skill development by passing the ball and trying to execute quick touch passes. However, Calvary intercepted a pass and had another quick goal before the half. FHS gathers itself at the half and on a great effort, Janelle Flores scores Fullerton’s first goal of the game. The team plays improved soccer in the second half and pressures the Calvary defense. Minutes later Alexis Helmer's determination pays off on another FHS goal. The comeback is too late and the Girls lose 4 - 2.

Girls Basketball:

Girls basketball started the week off with a win Tuesday night at Western High School 45-32. Senior Madison Zavaleta led all scorers with 17 points, and fellow senior Layla Thornton led with 14 rebounds. Wednesday night the girls, who were short handed with injuries, fell to Gahr High School 21-36. They look to end the week on a high note with a home game against Holy Family Friday at 5:30.

Boys Basketball:

Boys Basketball beat last year’s 5AA CIF Southern Section Champion Western High School on Tuesday 44-36. Josiah Reed and Josh Welch each had 13 points. On Thursday they beat Tustin High School, the #6 ranked team in division 3AA by a score of 54-37. Christian Hubbard led all scorers with 18 points and hits 5 3’s in the game. The tribe had 7 different players hit 3’s in the game. It was a team effort on both sides of the court. Fullerton travels to LB Wilson on Friday 12/9 to take on the Bruins at 7pm.

Girls Water Polo:

Our girls team started off the week strong, blowing La Mirada High school out of the water with a 17-4 win. On Wednesday both the JV and Varsity team faced off against Corona Centennial. Starting off with the varsity team the girls had a pretty even match through the game, after a tough game the varsity team did fall short with a 7-4 loss.

Next up the JV team played, after a tough fight the JV team lost 10-7. On Thursday the JV team had their first league game against Sunny Hills High School. Once again the girls did fight hard through all 4 quarters but ended up with a 6-2 loss. The girls are back to practice this week for an upcoming tournament next week and a few games throughout the week.

Wrestling:

Fullerton Wrestling had its first Freeway League matchup vs Sunny Hills. We came out with victories in 2 out of 3 levels.

JV: JV Boys started us off, wrestling tough but eventually fell in a close one, 22-31. They were led by Bryan Gallegos and Jacob Patrick getting pins.

Girls: The girls were next and were able to get the first win of the night, coming out on top 40-24. They were led by Jaretzy Libera, getting her first varsity win with a pin, and senior Julia Bustamante also got the pin. The girls are 1-0 in the league!

Varsity: The varsity boys had a bit of a slow start, losing 18-36 at one point. We were able to fight through in a very exciting comeback and won the last 5 matches of the night, all with pins, to complete the comeback and win 48-36. The varsity boys were led by Dylan Cobbs, Julian Rodela, and Kai Ortiz getting pins for the team. Matthew Martinez, Emilio Castaneda, DJ Cobbs, Juan Ramirez, and Austin Hulsizer were all part of the 5 match-win streaks to finish off the comeback! Varsity boys are 1-0 in the league!

On Saturday, the girls' team travels to Mater Dei HS for their individual tournament.
