As We Celebrate

The Conversion of

St. Paul

Stained Glass, Conversion of St. Paul the Apostle

Paulist Center, Boston

This weekend we’ll celebrate a great feast with readings that recount the dramatic conversion of the patron of the Paulist Fathers. The words of Mark 16:15 that we’ll sing in the Responsorial Psalm remind us to “Go out to all the world and tell the Good News.” Generations of Paulists have modeled that charge for us since our Parish was established in 1908. They’ve taught us through their strong preaching in a host of unique voices. With joy and good humor, yet distinctly through their diverse personalities, they’ve exemplified ways we can live out the Good News in our time and place.

The president of the Paulist Fathers will be with us to make the Annual Paulist Appeal. Fr. René Constanza will ask us to give generously to support the formation of Paulist seminarians; to contribute to the care of senior Paulists; and to fund the unique programming the Paulists offer as they work to combat toxic polarization and welcome the marginalized.

Perhaps you've already received a mailing directly from the Paulist Office of Mission Advancement about the Appeal focused on their good work in our parish. Additional copies will be in the pews at Mass to make your giving easy. If you missed last weekend’s eNews, we shared a video invitation to participate and other resources at A Paulist Foundation.

Fr. Chuck and Fr. Paolo ask you to spend a few minutes (8:18) to watch the video that spotlights our community as a Paulist Foundation. When Fr. René asks this weekend, please support the Paulists who’ve helped us cultivate our Beautiful Spirit - St. Austin Catholic Parish.

This Sunday afternoon, Bishop Joe Vásquez will confirm young people of our parish. We congratulate them, their parents and families, their catechists, and all who’ve supported them as they worked toward this milestone in their faith journey. The celebration of the sacrament at 1:00 p.m. will be livestreamed at Mass.

In news from Charity & Justice, we’re excited and grateful for the interest in our Parish Service Day. Coming soon on Saturday, February 4, this popular event is nearly full! We’ve updated the opportunities for volunteering this year. If all the openings at the site you’re interested in are taken, please email Kristen for a spot on the waitlist. If you’ve already signed up, please look for a confirming email from Kristen with more information. Updated details are at Parish Service Day.

Alas! Not enough people signed up for the Faith & Poverty: A Global Perspective to hold the course as planned. To be able to offer courses in justice, we must identify sufficient interest from the community. Please email Kristen if you’re interested in justice education opportunities.

Tomorrow our KC Council hosts a classic - the Basketball Free Throw Competition! During Lent, they’ll offer not one but two Fish Frys. If you didn’t get a taste last year, make sure you don’t miss one of this year’s delicious dinners! There’s more in the Knightly News.

Progress is apparent in the photos of and notes on the construction of our Ministry & Education Center. Find them at Construction Updates.

This coming week marks our celebration of Catholic Schools Week. We'll see and hear more in next week's eNews edition. On Wednesday morning, Bishop Joe Vásquez celebrated the 105th anniversary of our parish school with a Mass on the Feast of the Conversion of St. Paul the Apostle.

We thank you for the generosity you’ve shown in supporting our Beacon of Hope campaign as well as in continuing to support the daily operations of our parish with your gifts to the Offertory. Your giving of time and talent and treasure brings our mission to life, here and now.

Thank you!

…he began at once to proclaim Jesus in the synagogues, that He is the

Son of God.
