Ontario Helps Industrial Sites Become “Investment Ready” Sooner
Ontario government launches a pilot program to help municipalities and landowners prepare industrial sites for investments that will drive regional growth and job creation.
The Site Readiness Program is a funding initiative to help industrial sites become more equipped to attract investment. Sites of five acres or more and with varying capacity for utility servicing are eligible to apply. The one-year program will allow both urban and rural municipalities to help close a critical gap in the inventory of industrial lands used to attract global investment opportunities.

OAA, OGCA release CCDC recommendations
The Ontario Association of Architects (OAA) and the Ontario General Contractors Association (OGCA) have announced the publication of a document recommending supplements to CCDC 2-2020.
The document is intended for use with the latest edition of the Canadian Construction Documents Committee’s standard construction contract, stated a Nov. 5 release. It is available on both the OAA and the OGCA websites, along with a new Practice Tip outlining its use.

Canadian building permits increase 4.3% in September
Statistics Canada reports that Canadian building permits rose in September, led by higher construction intentions for multi-family residential units.
The total value of building permits in September advanced 4.3% on a month-over-month basis to a seasonally adjusted 10.14 billion Canadian dollars, or the equivalent of US$8.20 billion, Statistics Canada said Tuesday. Market expectations weren’t immediately available.
In the previous month, permits issued fell by a slightly revised 2.0%, versus an earlier estimate of a 2.1% decline.

DIALOG merges with NXL Architects
Canadian architectural firm DIALOG has announced its merger with NXL Architects.
A release from DIALOG calls NXL a Canadian leader in the planning and design of laboratories and complex-process facilities for science, technology and clean industry.
Both firms have been active in the science and technology sector recently.
DIALOG has underway or recently completed the National Institute for Nanotechnology at the University of Alberta, research laboratories at the Calgary Cancer Centre, and a nationwide renewal of Laboratories Canada facilities.

Ontario’s fall economic outlook promises big builds, including Hwy. 413
The province’s 2021 Fall Economic Statement says “yes” to building Ontario, with dedicated funding to improve roads and highways, hospitals and skilled trades training.
For 2021–22, the government is projecting a deficit of $21.5 billion, $11.6 billion lower than the outlook published in the 2021 Budget, said Bethlenfalvy, adding the improvement reflects a stronger economic growth outlook, as well as more recent information about the impact of COVID-19 on the province’s finances. The economic review focused on three areas: protecting our progress, building Ontario and working for workers.

Canada is fifth best country for construction workers
Canada ranks fifth in the world as the best country for construction workers to live and work, according to a study by Work Wear Guru.
The study takes a look at which countries are dominating the construction market and provide the best opportunities for construction workers. The ranking is based on factors like the average salary, cost of living, and safety.
The study notes that Canada is heavily urbanized, with major and medium-sized cities housing 82 per cent of the population. It scores highly in terms of quality of life, education, economic freedom, government transparency, and civil rights on a global scale.
