February 7, 2024 - Issue 25

Good evening!

I hope you all have been enjoying the sunshine these past few days. It has been a welcome change and a nice addition this week as we celebrate National School Counseling Week at EC. We are blessed to have the awesome Counseling team of Mrs. Christine Brooks, Ms. Katie Gauntner, Mrs. Judy Mey, Mrs. Margie Mendez, and Mr. Peter George at Elyria Catholic. They each spend their days going above and beyond assisting our students and helping them move in the direction of a fulfilling future. We are fortunate to have a team with such enthusiasm and compassion for our students. Thank you!!

As you read through the Panther Family News, you will notice several opportunities for our students are listed under the Counseling section. As we move closer to summer and the end of the school year, you will find that list growing with something for everyone's interests. Please take time to review this resource and make every effort to apply for scholarships, explore summer jobs, internships and service projects. Don't let these opportunities pass you by.

Remember, registration for the 2024-2025 school year ends Friday, February 16. Please read the information below for more details.

Enjoy the rest of the week and keep the ripple going, Panthers!

Beyond the Panther Classroom

ATTENTION PARENTS AND GUARDIANS

Diversity Club is looking for anyone interested in coming to EC one day after school to make a short presentation to students where you share about your culture or heritage.

  • For February, we are looking for anyone who might want to present on African American, African, or any Afrocentric or Afrodescendent culture.
  • For March, we are looking for anyone who might want to present on Irish, Scottish or Welsh culture.
  • For May, we are looking for presenters of Pacific Islander and Asian cultures.

The presentations can range from 10-30 minutes and we ask that you present on your favorite aspects of your culture so that students can get a taste for it. If you have a special dish that reflects your culture and you would like to make it for students to sample, that would be lovely! (certainly not required). If you or someone you know might be interested in presenting on any of these cultures, please contact Christin Coughlin-- coughlin@elyriacatholic.com.

2024 Lorain International Princess Pageant

The annual 2024 Lorain International Princess Pageant is extremely unique in the fact that the applicants "run" in the pageant by representing their ethnic heritage. This gives each individual the opportunity to learn a little more about their ethnic history, and then share that with the community through numerous community service events, volunteering opportunities, and participation in the events that lead up to the annual Lorain International Festival, which will be held June 28-30, 2024.

Each year, the crowned queen and court members are awarded college scholarships for their year-long participation as ambassadors for Lorain County and the Lorain International Festival.

See the flyer above with more information. Applications officially open up tomorrow and will be available until February 26, 2024. Applications can be found on our website linked HERE. Panther Pride - Ana MacDonald '22 pictured in top photo, second from right!
