I had always planned to make a large painting of the early spring, when the first leaves are at the bottom of the trees, and they seem to float in space in a wonderful way. But the arrival of spring can't be done in one picture.

Hummingbird
I call my paintings, "Abstract Realism". I am a Contemporary Artist who paints on Plexiglas, using Reverse Imaging. My symbolic, colorful images are interpreted by what captivates me in a blurred out photograph and echoes a subjective response to what I feel when I connect with that painting. My current themes are Astronomy, Spirituality and Landscapes.
I begin my creative process by drilling holes into the Plexiglas, attaching wire and laying it flat on a table. I draw my design with a white glass paint marker. I squeeze or drip alcohol Inks and acrylics, sometimes adding metallic markers to define the composition.

Yellow Spring
I like my paintings to be strong, whether from colour, form or something else. I want them to invoke an immediate reaction, either confronting the viewers or drawing them in to the work. The world of flowers and Irish dance have been my inspiration for some time.
My flower inspired paintings use strong colours and form and I also extend the field of view by incorporating microscopic and molecular elements. I like to obfuscate by ignoring scale and jumbling elements which I feel comes closer to nature itself than realistic painting.

Bird in the Garden
My work is a contemporary statement worn by the elements. I am interested in texture with hidden images, movement and age. I love discarded old things, deserted places and damp basements… stones and cracked walls overgrown with nature… mysterious places where wild animals live.
I start out with a vague plan of what materials or media I want to use and then I let them arrange themselves. My work is many times layered and often changes radically from the beginning to the end piece. I just keep working on something until it tells me it’s finished.

It's A Spring Thing
I love to paint, I love the challenge. I struggle with every piece, mixing paint right on the canvas, using charcoal and scratching to make line, creating images and then destroying them. Sometimes I am satisfied with the outcome quickly and sometimes never.
Painting allows me to express my emotions and or the emotions I choose to explore. Sometimes my images are abstract, sometimes figures without facial features. I choose to have my paintings be completed by the viewer.

Spring Symphony
The abstract paintings of Amy Longcope represent perhaps what is most fundamental to her, not just as an artist but as a person as well: a love affair with color and an unbound freedom resting between the colors of paint and her spontaneous reaction to blank white canvas.
“My goal is not to create anything specific in the beginning but rather to unleash the intense desire to
create with beautiful colors and shapes which evoke thought and emotion.”

Where's the Bird
I must admit that I am totally involved in the whole process of painting. I love stretching the canvas, opening the paints, or the smell of the wax when I am doing a batik, watching the dyes spread when they hit the surface of the material.
I am always amazed by the results of putting all this stuff together on a surface and ending up with an expression of art.

Color Collection
Like most other people, I have experienced many detours in my life journey -- some big, some small. But, when I came here, to Florida's beautiful West Coast, my work changed. It became bright, colorful; lighter and looser. I experimented with new materials, new colors, new subject matter. I began adding collage materials and found objects. I started using watercolors and inks along with acrylics. My work became more abstract and symbolic. I rediscovered oil paint, but in a new way, mixing the oils with cold wax to add depth and texture.

In the Midst
Color, light, nature, and beauty in the everyday -- these are things that drive my artwork. Initially, photography and color study formed the foundations that enabled me to move into other media, including watercolor, alcohol inks and resin, acrylics, collage and oil with cold wax.
Conceptually, I often focus on communication in the modern world, the feminist issues that we face, and the connection of all natural things. Sometimes, however, a piece is just an abstract expression of the moment!

Rose Explosion Too!
I have been playing with color and design pretty much all my life! Recently I have hit a creative streak where a day doesn't go by that I'm not painting. I love flowers and gardening so it only makes sense to recreate that passion on canvas.

My work alternates between that of a personal nature, such as autobiographical pieces about my Italian heritage, and that of universal concerns, such as the environment and world politics. My art is usually mixed media, such as combining painting and/or photography with objects both constructed and found.
|
My most recent body of work is of photographs that are taken very close-up (macro-photography) or of scenes and objects where the focus has been concentrated in one selected area.
|
I feel that art has always been for me an avenue of expression of my feelings and thoughts, an intuitive interpretation of the world around me. I believe that this is a vital expression for me, as well as an essential expression for all cultures, and all of humanity in general. It is my view that art, as well as music and literature, is the soul of a society and is extremely important because of its universal, intuitive manner of communication.

I am a Puerto Rican fine art photographer who looks inquisitively into uncommon spaces to discover the art of nature that we sometimes don't see, like the magic of sand formations, the dance of water in the seashore, water reflections and details of tree bark.
|
I feel a need to go into the intimacy of nature with the objective of showing you valuable discoveries. The tropical environment of the Caribbean and the hispanic culture have greatly influenced me and my artwork. My ulterior objective is to share with observers the feelings, passions, loves and fears present in the creative process and the artwork result.
