“Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends."
-- John 15:13
Dear fellow alumni:
Jesus spoke these words to His disciples to illustrate His command for us to love each other. This verse is often spoken when remembering veterans who have made the ultimate sacrifice, demonstrating their love for friends and for freedom. As CUAA honors our veterans, we give thanks for their lives of service and sacrifice for our country. I invite you to read the full chapter of John 15 and reflect on Jesus and His supreme sacrifice for our eternal freedom. Let us love one another as He loves us!
Keep scrolling for complete veterans week details, and while you're at it, check out all of the November happenings at CUAA and make plans to get involved.
You can also spread the news! Boar’s Head is BACK for 2021! And yes, Boar's Head tickets are still available. Please let me know if you have any questions and I'll be happy to help.
Hope to see you soon!
God’s blessings,

Veterans Week: Showing how much Concordia Cares!
November 8-14
To make sure all the veterans in our community know how much we appreciate them, we’ve planned some very special activities for "Salute to Service", the week of November 8-14.
Though the official federal holiday of Veterans Day is observed on November 11 (marking the signing of The Armistice agreement that ended WWI), CUAA has several significant events planned on and around November 11 to honor both veterans on campus and in the local community. Concordia Vespers made possible by you!
Concordia University Ann Arbor invites community members to enjoy the melodic sounds of Concordia Vespers, a worship service that takes place in the Chapel of the Holy Trinity. We are able to present this worship service each semester at no cost because of the generous donor funding from our alumni and friends. This year's event on November 14 will feature fellow alumnus Rev. Don Neuendorf (1977) from St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ann Arbor, who will serve as the guest preacher. The music performed by the Concordia Choir will be an assortment of anthems by Whitacre, Farrant, JS Bach, Tallis, and Stroope.

Alumni ambassadors for CUAA
The admissions team were “road warriors” during the month of October, recruiting future Cardinals. The admissions staff collectively visited nearly 100 high schools, covering six states, and attended more than 50 college fairs. It was great to see many Cardinal alumni in these schools and we appreciate the support. A special thanks to two alumni -- Brian Horning (2009, Petoskey, Mich.) and Becky Chaplin (2015, Las Vegas, NV)-- who served as admission ambassadors and covered college fairs for the admissions team. The team will continue to visit high schools and churches in the months of November and December. If you want a CUAA admission counselor to visit your youth group or high school, contact Kyle Thoms, director of enrollment.
If you know a senior in high school looking to explore their college options, please encourage them to apply, visit, and complete the FAFSA by the end of the November (Read more)!
Pictured: BIG thanks to alumnus Brian Horning for setting up the college fair in Petoskey.

4 Tips for growing your emotional intelligence
Emotional intelligence, often referred to as “EQ”, is the term used to describe the ability to “perceive, control, and evaluate emotions.” There is a strong need for emotional intelligence in the workplace. We all can think of someone in our office or on our video call who could stand to grow their emotional intelligence. But, the truth is that all of us could stand to grow in this area, most likely. Final Thought from
Campus Pastor Randy Duncan
Each morning during the school year, our campus pastor, Randy Duncan, sends out an email full of inspirational thoughts, concepts to ponder, scripture, and prayer requests. We thought we would share some of his thoughts with you each month for us to contemplate.
Final thought: When we pray, God hears more than we say, answers more than we ask, gives more than we imagine – in His own time and in His own way.
