Faculty member launches new project
SSW Assistant Professor Nev Jones recently launched a new joint advocacy project with the Bazelon Center for Mental Health Law, Mental Health America and Project Lets. The initial phase of the project involved a nationwide survey of current/former college students designed to better understand experiences of psychiatric-disability based discrimination, and accommodation denials in higher education. ICYMI: Bradford December graduation
Congratulations to the sixteen graduates who were recognized for earning their Master of Social Work as part of the ninth cohort of students of the Pitt-Bradford MSW Program. Speakers at the event included Richard Esch, interim president of Pitt-Bradford, and Elizabeth Farmer, dean of the School of Social Work at the University of Pittsburgh. Alumna sworn in as school board member
MSW alumna Jamie Piotrowski was sworn in as the new Pittsburgh School Board member for District 7. Piotrowski is a licensed social worker and currently serves as community project manager for Uptown Partners of Pittsburgh. Read more in the Tribune Review.
Alumnus wins Lifetime Achievement Award
MSW alumnus Russ Curry received the Region 4 Lifetime Achievement Award from the Ohio Chapter of the National Association of Social Workers. Curry was recognized for his work as a board of directors member for A Caring Place Child Advocacy Center in Wintersville,OH. Read more.
Dean Davis Memorial Campaign
The Pitt Social Work community mourned the passing of Dean Emeritus Larry Davis earlier this year. In remembrance of Dean Davis’s many contributions to the School and social work profession, we are pleased to join the School’s Board of Visitors and University leadership in a memorial fundraising effort.
