CALVARY CHURCH WEEKLY NEWS | |

One of the highlights of our recent visit to Israel with a group of 46 from Calvary was standing on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem. Solomon’s temple was built on Mount Moriah — the same mountain where Abraham offered Isaac. 2 Chronicles 3:1 states, “Then Solomon began to build the house of the Lord in Jerusalem on Mount Moriah where the Lord had appeared to David his father.” That temple was destroyed by the Babylonians in 586 B.C. and later rebuilt at the time of Ezra and Zerubbabel. Then Herod the Great built the temple, which the Romans destroyed in A.D. 70. Today, there is no temple, but rather on the Temple Mount stands the Dome of the Rock, built by the Muslims in the 7th century. So for 2,000 years there has been no temple!
Will the temple be rebuilt? Many dispute its rebuilding, but there are clear prophecies stating that a new temple will stand there in Jerusalem during the millennial reign of Christ. For example, Micah 4 reads, “That the mountain of the house of the Lord shall be established as the highest of the mountains, and it shall be lifted up above the hills; and peoples shall flow to it, and many nations shall come, and say: “Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the house of the God of Jacob, that he may teach us his ways and that we may walk in his paths. For out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem.” Ezekiel 40–48 also refers to the temple. So if we adopt a normal grammatical-historical hermeneutic, it is clear that there will be a future temple.
How wonderful to know that God is faithful to his Word and that when the King of kings and Lord of lords returns, He shall reign with perfect justice, peace, and righteousness. Meantime we who are his followers humbly bow before King Jesus and display and proclaim Him to all the nations.
