2022 Inaugural Race &... Conference


The Race &... Conference elevates the work of the University's race-related centers (including the Center on Race and Social Problems), the health sciences, and Africana Studies.  The conference will promote collaboration between the centers and departments (also known as the Center of Centers) and provide a platform to engage in dialogue to create pathways of connection and empowerment. The theme of the conference will explore how the Center of Centers’ collaboration can impact Black life in Pittsburgh. The conference will convene on Friday, September 30, 2022, from 9:00 to 3:30 p.m. at the University Club. Child Welfare Appreciation Week


As part of Child Welfare Worker Appreciation Week, September 12-16, 2022, NCWWI and the Children’s Bureau are hosting a one-hour virtual recognition event on Tuesday, September 13 at 3:00 pm EDT. This event is about taking time to reflect, connect (with their mission and each other), and recharge.


This year the emcees are Carissa O’Dell, Evan Tansey, and Brittany Candioto. They are NCWWI traineeship students and alumni of the University of Oklahoma and team members at The Muscogee Nation Indian Child Welfare Program. Obituaries


  • MSW alumnus Ronald McGhee Lewis of Montclair, who had a long and distinguished career as an educator, social worker and community organizer, died on Aug. 29, 2022. He was 87. Read more.


  • BASW and MSW alumnus Louis "Buddy" Sapolsky, of Pikesville, Maryland, passed away on Saturday, September 3rd, 2022 at the age of 77. He will be remembered for his legacy and impact he had on the Baltimore Jewish Community. Read more.
