Dear Parents and Guardians,

We were notified on Wednesday of a positive COVID-19 case in our Serra community. We know that this news is concerning. We are aware that the Delta COVID-19 variant is highly contagious, and that a positive case is unfortunately not unique to Serra.

Following the news of the positive case, Serra conducted contact tracing, sent notifications to those individuals identified as close contacts, and instituted quarantine protocols as required by the San Mateo County Pandemic Recovery Framework. This recently updated framework outlines the steps and protocols Serra must follow when dealing with a confirmed positive case.

Please note that the San Mateo County Pandemic Recovery Framework outlines different protocols for vaccinated and unvaccinated students who are identified as a close contact of a positive COVID-19 case. As a reminder, fully vaccinated students who are close contacts must self-observe for symptoms, but they participate in all school and extracurricular activities. Unvaccinated students who are close contact may attend class, but are restricted from extracurricular activities.

Consistent with privacy laws and our own policies, we are not able to share more specific information concerning the community member who tested positive. As members of a compassionate and caring community, I ask everyone to respect each other’s privacy, especially in regard to health information. As a school we remain committed to sharing with the community information and details that help maintain the health and safety of everyone.

Moving forward, we will continue to notify those impacted by a positive case as mandated by the framework.

Thank you in advance for your support and understanding as we pray for those impacted by COVID- 19.

Sincerely,
