Past Events & Announcements

Congratulations Students!

Recently some of our Memorial students have received special awards from National Merit Scholarship Corporation and College Board's National Recognition Program.

Congratulations to Charlotte Burks '23 and Vincenzo Smith '23 for being a Commended Student in the 2023 National Merit Scholarship Program. A Letter of Commendation from the school and National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC), which conducts the program, will be presented to these scholastically talented seniors.

About 34,000 Commended Students throughout the nation are being recognized for their exceptional academic promise and we are very proud of our students who are part of this recognition.

College Board's National Recognition Program

In addition, congratulations to our Alexander Bryan: NAARA, Chanel Breton: NHRA and Charlotte Burks: NHRA, who are one of 62,000 students from across the country to earn academic honors from the College Board’s National Recognition Programs!

Alexander Bryan '23: National African American Recognition Award

Chanel Breton '23: National Hispanic Recognition Award

Charlotte Burks '23: National Hispanic Recognition Award

The three SJM students earned this recognition by excelling on their PSAT/NMSQT, PSAT 10, or AP Exams and in their classrooms. Students who may be eligible have a GPA of 3.5 or higher and have excelled on the

PSAT/NMSQT or PSAT 10, or earned a score of 3 or higher on two or more AP Exams. Congratulations to these amazing students!

Happy National Hispanic Heritage Month

Join us in celebrating National Hispanic Heritage Month. We'd love to highlight Hispanic SJM Alumni who are making positive contributions in their communities today. Please email your nominations to ggutierrez@sjmhs.org

Each year, Americans observe National Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15 to October 15, by celebrating the histories, cultures and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America.

The observation started in 1968 as Hispanic Heritage Week under President Lyndon Johnson and was expanded by President Ronald Reagan in 1988 to cover a 30-day period starting on September 15 and ending on October 15. It was enacted into law on August 17, 1988.

The day of September 15 is significant because it is the anniversary of independence for Latin American countries Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua. In addition, Mexico and Chile celebrate their independence days on September 16 and September18, respectively. Also, Columbus Day or Día de la Raza, which is October 12, falls within this 30 day period.

Policy Change: Starting October 1, 2022 Croc Sandals/Clogs During the School Day will NOT be Allowed

Due to safety concerns and the lack of support to follow the rule of wearing back straps, the Administration has removed CROCS as one of the approved footwear on campus. Beginning Oct. 1st, CROCS will NOT be allowed to be worn on campus. Escalating infractions will occur with each added offense. Please follow the new guidelines. Any questions, please contact Mr. Flores or Mr. Goston.
