Why did you choose Delta State?
I was blessed to have the opportunity to be able to coach the Women's Soccer Team as a graduate assistant under head coach (at the time) Luke Sheekey. I have very fond memories of the Delta and the wonderful people at Delta State.
What have you been doing since you graduated from DSU?
This is my journey from graduation to current position:
I entered a CPT internship with a company based in Boston during the last semester of my time at DSU. After graduation, I converted to OPT and was able to leverage a lot of the skillsets from my MBA during this position. Within one year, I was able to get promoted, and the company was supportive of sponsoring me to complete a Harvard Business School class in Leadership principles. It was great!
Following this, I interviewed at Grammarly and got the job. I have been here for 3 years now (2 years in Vancouver, BC) before moving to the NYC office on an L1 visa.
If anyone at DSU would like to reach out and talk about this journey, feel free to reach out to me on LinkedIn!
My current role is leading recruitment for the Machine Learning, Research Science, NLP, and On-Device ML teams at Grammarly. I have helped build several ML teams at Grammarly from scratch to larger organizations, as well as build out existing teams around the world. I joined Grammarly when we had 450 team members; we now have over 1000.
How did DSU prepare you for what you're doing now?
I have been able to leverage plenty of experience from my MBA into my corporate job. However, one of the best things that DSU has done for me (primarily due to DSU's location in the Delta) is teach me the importance of caring for people. We live in a fast paced world and I felt that things slowed down a little in the Delta and it was a reminder that sometimes we need to slow down and remember that community (and family) is everything!
What’s a favorite DSU memory?
Winning at UWG [University of West Georgia] away! Underdogs, and we lived up to the challenge. Go, Fighting Okra!
