Youth Week

The Town is celebrating Youth Week. Check out some great activities at the Georgina Gym all week including basketball, soccer, volleyball and more. It’s a great opportunity to come out, make new friends and get active.

Mother’s Day Swim

Join us on Sunday, May 14, from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., for the Mother’s Day swim at the Georgina Leisure Pool. Bring your mom to the public swim and she swims free. Admission fee and wristband policy applies – mom swims free with one paid admission. Drop in or register online.

Shoreline documentary screening

Join us at the Stephen Leacock Theatre of Performing Arts for a free screening of the documentary Shoreline: The Paddle Against Plastic, with special guest Rochelle Byrne on Tuesday, May 16. Discover the journey of Rochelle Byrne as she paddles 430km across Lake Ontario, bringing awareness to the impact plastics found in the water have on the environment. There will be a Q & A with Rochelle following the film. This program is presented in partnership by the Stephen Leacock Theatre of Performing Arts and Georgina Public Library.

Swap and Sell

Back by popular demand is Georgina's Annual Swap and Sell.

Date: Saturday, May 13

Time: 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Location: Georgina Ice Palace, 90 Wexford Dr. (parking lot).

Register as a vendor to sell your used or new wares, or come to shop! To register for a spot, call 905-476-4301, ext. 3001. No commercial vendors please. Vendors may start setting up at 7:30 a.m. and are encouraged to bring a donation for the Georgina Community Food Pantry.

Electronics eWaste Recycling Event

Date: Saturday, May 13

Time: 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Location: Georgina Ice Palace, 90 Wexford Dr. (back parking lot)

Wondering what to do with your old electronics? The Town is also holding a free Electronics eWaste Recycling Event. Leave your old electronics with us and we'll recycle them for you, free of charge. Remove all batteries/packaging before delivering your items for disposal.

Installing a swimming pool or hot tub?

All private swimming pools and hot tubs are subject to the Pool Enclosure By-law and Zoning By-law. Contact us about pool enclosure permits. 


Constructing a deck or shed? 

Decks and sheds are subject to the Zoning Bylaw and most require a building permit. Simple repairs may also require a building permit.

Building Georgina update

Building Georgina highlights some of the many projects that are underway throughout the community. 

Pefferlaw Community Garden

Watch for the new community garden in Pefferlaw. Work is underway and will be completed soon. The Georgina-Brock Garden Club will be coordinating the garden once it is up and running. It includes a new pathway, an at-grade garden plot, six raised cedar garden beds of varying heights, a storage shed, a composter, an accessible picnic table/workbench and two dwarf apple trees.

Uptown Keswick Parkette

Construction is underway on the Uptown Keswick Parkette, located at 2 the Queensway S. The revitalized parkette features a new multi-purpose shelter with power outlets to support community events and performances, accessible seating throughout, a concrete plaza and gathering space, a public art installation celebrating indigenous culture, and other improvements to beautify the space.

Share your feedback

Pigeons in residential areas

The Town is exploring whether to allow pigeons in residential areas and wants your feedback. A survey can be found at georgina.ca/pigeons. It runs until May 25. Residents are also invited to attend a Public Information Centre on Tuesday, May 9, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the Council Chamber at the Civic Centre, 26557 Civic Centre Rd. Staff from Development Services and Municipal Law Enforcement will be available to provide background information and to receive comments at that time.

Keswick Cemetery Master Plan

The Town is working on the development of a new master plan for the Keswick Cemetery. The new plan will guide the Keswick Cemetery through the next 20 years and beyond. The Town is seeking your feedback. We need your input to inform the recommendations for the new plan. The survey is open until May 12. To learn more, visit georgina.ca/KeswickCemeteryPlan.

Resident Parking Passes

Residents and property owners can apply online and get a parking pass immediately. Residents can obtain up to a maximum of four parking passes per household. A parking pass must be displayed on your dashboard while parked in areas where required by signage.

Camp Fire. Burn permits online.

Burn permits

Permit applications for agricultural and open-air burn permits are available online. The permit fee is $35 for the calendar year. Residents can have recreational fires to roast marshmallows and hot dogs, and these fires do not require a permit. They must be no larger than 2’ x 2’ and be at least 23’ away from anything that can burn as well as property lines.

Curbside Giveaway

Curbside Giveaway Days

Clear out the clutter in your home. The next Curbside Giveaway Day is May 27. Put your unwanted items at the curb from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Other residents/neighbours can then take these items free of charge. Any unclaimed items must be removed by 5 p.m. and can only be put to the curb on the selected dates.

Georgina Public Library

On Friday, May 5, join Georgina Public Library for its Teen Space Open House from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Come out and celebrate the opening of a new Teen Space at the Keswick branch. Enjoy an afternoon of video games, snacks and quality time with fellow teens.

May long weekend reminders

A reminder to residents that the Civic Centre will be closed on Monday, May 22 for the Victoria Day holiday. Waste and recycling collection will move one day later for the week of May 22. Check your waste calendar, download the free Recycle Coach app or visit georgina.ca/WasteandRecycling for more. The Victoria Day long weekend is the unofficial start to summer and the Town is getting ready for the 2023 summer season. There is a variety of outdoor recreation areas, parks, waterfront beaches, sports fields and splash pads available for use by residents and visitors.

Council meetings are a flexible hybrid model, providing staff, Council members and the public the option of participating either in person or virtually.

In-person Council meetings have resumed. Council meetings are broadcasted through the Town’s live streaming tool. Anyone interested in speaking during the public portion of the meeting may attend in-person or virtually. To participate virtually, pre-registration is required. A Request to Speak form must be submitted to the Clerks Division by noon the day before the meeting. The form can be found at georgina.ca/CouncilMeetings.
