Welcome to the new School of Social Work faculty!
We are happy to welcome three new faculty members this fall! Assistant Professor Victor Figuereo, Assistant Professor Genevra (Nev) Jones, and Dr. Brooke Rawls as the new Assistant Professor and Academic Coordinator for the Child Welfare Education for Baccalaureates (CWEB) program.
Duck wins book award
Center on Race and Social Problems Visiting Scholar Waverly Duck’s book, "Tacit Racism," won an award from the Society for the Study of Symbolic Interaction. Read more.
Alumni appointed to lead social work program
MSW alumnus Dr. Christopher Wayne Robinson has recently been appointed as inaugural assistant professor of Social Work at The Pennsylvania State University. In this role, he will launch the universities recently developed Bachelors of Social Work program at the PSU Greater Allegheny Campus in McKeesport, Pennsylvania.
A conversation with a palliative care social worker
MSW alumna Tanisha Bowman is a support and palliative care social worker who serves within the UPMC Hospitals network. She spoke with Public Source about the barriers that race and bias present for people faced with carrying out a loved one’s end-of-life wishes (or advance directives). Read or listen here.
Black Led Community Spotlight: Morgan Overton 
MSW alumna Morgan Overton is now serving as president of the Young Democrats of Allegheny County. “I would say we're a chocolate box. Social work students help reimagine space
Radiant Hall, the nonprofit that rents affordable studio space to local artists, worked with students in the master’s of social work program at the University of Pittsburgh to research equitable development and a plan to contribute to neighborhood stabilization. In other words, they wanted to mitigate potential gentrification forces such a space might bring. Read more in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
