Ledford Named Associate Dean for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

Ayana Ledford’s incredible energy and deep commitment to community engagement have helped to build a more diverse, equitable and inclusive culture at the Dietrich College of Humanities and Social Sciences over the past three years.
In recognition of the progress she has made and her growing responsibilities, Ledford has been named the college’s first full-time associate dean for diversity, equity and inclusion, effective July 1.

Researchers Identify Groups Hesitant about COVID-19 Vaccine

A study conducted by researchers from Carnegie Mellon University and the University of Pittsburgh has found that vaccine hesitancy has decreased among US adults by one-third between January and May 2021. While tentative people are concerned about COVID-19 vaccine safety and potential side effects, those with stronger views tend to distrust the government.

Psychology Ph.D. Candidates Receive NSF Graduate Fellowships

Two Ph.D. students in CMU’s Department of Psychology, Chisom Obasih and Sophie Robert, have received Graduate Fellowships from the National Science Foundation. The fellowship offers a $34,000 stipend along with a $12,000 cost of education allowance for three years. These fellowships will assist Obasih and Robert in their research efforts.

When Dr. Jennifer Lynn Barkin was a freshman at Carnegie Mellon University, she vowed to overcome her fear of mathematics. In 1997, she graduated from the Dietrich College of Humanities and Social Sciences with a major in statistics.
Jennifer’s promise not only benefited her. It has helped countless people around the world, particularly new mothers and children.
