Be Prepared for Our Next Weather Emergency

When the remnants of Hurricane Ida swept through Bucks County in September, more than 10 inches of rain and three confirmed tornados left widespread damage. Our region has had an increasing number of significant storms. For everyone's safety, we urge you to refresh your know-how for anticipating and managing weather emergencies.

Don't Drive Around Barricades! It is inconvenient when you see road barricades. However, roadway collapses start under the surface and barricades are there to protect you from what you can't see. For example, as of late September, PennDOT has barricaded two areas of state-maintained River Road, near Lookout Park and the Canal Bridge. The Township is working with PennDOT to expedite these repairs.

Please Keep Storm Drains Clean and Clear

Did you know that stormwater flows directly into our streams and river? That makes it all the more important that you clear your storm drains routinely, and assure that your lawn has minimal seepage of chemicals that can harm our fresh water. Keeping drains clear also helps alleviate flooding since the water has a place to go.

When raking leaves, fertilizing your lawn and installing landscaping, please consider using these tips to keep storm drains clean and clear.

  • Use fertilizers sparingly
  • Sweep up driveways, sidewalks and gutters
  • Never dump anything down or near storm drains or in streams
  • Vegetate bare spots in your yard
  • Use a car wash, where dirty water is recycled, instead of washing your car at home
  • Pick up after your pet

Healthy Trees Absorb Stormwater - Tap our UMTree Grant for Your Fall Landscaping

You can do your part in mitigating future stormwater damage by planting trees. They reduce runoff by absorbing rainfall and hold soil in place to help prevent erosion. Offset some of your costs by utilizing the tree grant program.

The UMTree Grant will reimburse residents who plant Pennsylvania native trees on their own properties. It's a win-win! The program will reimburse homeowners for purchase, planting and deer protection for up to 12 trees or $975 total. These grants are funded through contributions from local land developers and not through tax dollars.
2022 Preliminary Budget Ticks Down Township Tax Rate

Since 2011, Upper Makefield Township’s real estate tax has been reduced from a high of 13.3525 mils to the proposed 2022 level of 7.25 mils.

The 2022 Preliminary Budget is available now for public review and slated for consideration of adoption at the Board of Supervisors Public Meeting on October 19, 2021. As presented, the proposed budget reduces taxes next year by 0.3525 mils.

The Township is on course to repay all debt, including a voter-approved Open Space bond, by 2025. In addition, a five-year Capital Improvement Plan is funded for Administration/Facilities, Police, and Public Works improvements. The 2022 Preliminary Budget includes a General Fund transfer of $350,000 to the Capital Fund.

More 2022 Budget Highlights

  • The General Fund retains a comfortable fund balance.
  • 2022 Road Improvement Program allocation of $580,00 for improvements to 10 Township roads.
  • Funding for one additional full-time police officer.

By law, the Board of Supervisors must adopt its annual budget at a public meeting held before the end of each year. The Township runs on a calendar year. The Preliminary Budget is available for review at the Township office and online.
