McCall Library Co-sponsors Campus Workshop on Social Movements
|
|
During this unprecedented time in history, when racial issues are drawing a response from those who might otherwise be silent, we are seeing many people taking action, often for the first time. When there is social unrest, it is important for the community to be equipped with knowledge and resources.
We invite all community members--students, faculty, and staff--to participate in a Workshop on Social Movements. The purpose of this workshop series is to provide historical and contemporary context of social movements responding to anti-Blackness, and an education about the Movement for Black Lives. It will offer context, options, reflexive questions and activities via facilitator presentations, group exercises, reflection, and feedback.
The workshop will meet for a total of four 45 minute sessions. Please learn more and express your interest at this link:
This workshop is free to participants, and is funded jointly by the Honors College, the Doy Leale McCall Rare Book and Manuscript Library, the Office of Diversity and Inclusion, the Department of History, and the Office of Community Engagement.

Beth Rugan Shepard, Instruction Coordinator Librarian, Graduates from SPARC
|
|
Congratulations to Beth Rugan Shepard who recently graduated from the
SPARC Open Education Leadership Fellows program
. The class of 27 represents SPARC member libraries from 17 states and provinces, and includes a diverse range of backgrounds and experience levels. As a member of the third cohort, she completed an intensive two semester professional development program, attended the 16th Annual Open Education Conference in Phoenix, AZ in October 2019, and completed her capstone project in June 2020.
Beth’s capstone project,
Knowing is Half the Battle: A Librarian OER Needs Assessment
, focused on creating a needs assessment project to provide insights into the needs of academic librarians regarding OER, their attitudes to OER, and, finally, how we teach librarians about OER and Open Education. Her hope is that this needs assessment will influence the curriculum that the Open Community uses to teach information professionals about OER. The
community resources
of her capstone include a data collection instrument (survey), the raw data, and 10 Key Takeaways.

Temporarily Available Resources
|
In the wake of the COVID-19 crisis, many library and textbook vendors have been either expanding access to subscriptions already owned by libraries, or they've been making their resources available to libraries for free for a limited time. Some of these resources require you to create a free account to access them.
Available resources include textbooks, streaming video, databases, journal content, reference material, course material, and a data visualization tool.
