While Catholic Schools Week officially concluded February 6th, an inclement weather-induced Virtual Learning Day extended Marquette's festivities to Friday.
The Blazers opened CSW last Monday with a formal Mass led by Bishop Robert J. McClory. The ceremony marked his third service at Marquette since his ordination and installation last February.
The Class of 2021 won the day Tuesday as all classes engaged in a Name That Tune tournament. The sophomore class upset the juniors in round-robin play to force a winner-take-all showdown versus the seniors. Taken to the brink, the seniors rallied for a 5-4 triumph.
Students donned patriotic clothing on Wednesday as Marquette celebrated our nation. Principal Casey Martin opened the morning by presenting Skip Strzelecki with a check for $1,350.00 to Folds of Honor, a charity whose sole goal is to provide scholarships to the children of injured and/or fallen soldiers. Thanks to a fundraising effort of its own, Notre Dame Catholic School added $350 to the cause.
Following lunch, Marquette streamed its annual Talent Show. The 2021 version was a compilation of beautiful musical acts that incorporated piano, guitar, and vocal pieces. The day concluded with each class decorating a portion of the hallways inside the main building.
Interclass competition returned on Thursday with Teacher Trivia, a delightful offspring of The Price is Right and Jeopardy! Students were quizzed with fun facts on teachers and staff. (Did you know Mr. Klaeser has completed 33 marathons? Or that Mr. Gault had NASCAR legend Jeff Gordon as a student?) Experience played a vital role as the seniors cruised to a first-place finish.
Last Friday's aforementioned Virtual Learning Day allowed the momentum to fester into this Friday, when Marquette resumed its final day of Catholic Schools Week. The seniors clinched the Spirit Week competition with a rousing victory in the fierce dodgeball contest.
Once the projectiles were locked up, the beasts gave way to the beauties with the celebration of the Homecoming Court. Shena Fleming and Stephen Hribal were elected from the freshmen class. Diana Fields and Lukas Balling represented the Class of 2023. Sophia Reyna and Ethan Catt won the vote for the junior class. Mary Kate Bobillo and Jonathan Allen earned the distinction of Homecoming Queen and Mr. Marquette.
