Moving Forward
City to start gradual reopening of facilities on Saturday

Some City facilities, particularly those associated with outdoor recreation, will reopen Saturday following the expiration of Gov. Doug Ducey's stay home order on Friday, while many buildings will remain closed for now as staff plans and prepares to open them safely.

Outdoor amenities including the skate park in Veterans Memorial Park, the dog park in Tompkins Park and sports facilities like ballfields and basketball, pickleball, volleyball, and tennis courts will reopen on Saturday. Lobbies at City facilities including the Sports Division, City Hall, the Pedro Castro Maintenance Center, the Ethel H. Berger Center (EBC), Sierra Vista Police Department, and Sierra Vista Public Library will reopen on Monday.

The Oscar Yrun Community Center will remain closed for construction, with plans to reopen in late June. Customer service for leisure program registrations and payments can be completed over the phone or in person at EBC.

Residents are still encouraged to take care of any business online whenever possible. While lobbies will be open, most buildings will remain closed to the public for now apart from their lobbies while the City ensures adequate sanitation supplies can be sustained and procedures can be established to protect staff and the public.

Online payments are encouraged, although customer service staff will be available to take credit card and check payments at some facilities. Cash payments are temporarily suspended.

"We're encouraged by the guidance provided by Governor Ducey that allows us to start opening back up and we thank our residents for being patient during this tough time," Sierra Vista Mayor Rick Mueller says. "However, please understand that this is not the moment to move full speed ahead. We must still practice common sense hygiene,  adhere to social distancing as much as possible, and respect safety measures to ensure we do not lose the extraordinary progress we've made in fighting COVID-19."

Updates regarding the status of particular facilities and programs are provided below. The status of City facilities is subject to change based on the latest state and federal guidance and on the number of active COVID-19 cases in the area. For ongoing updates and the most current information, head to the City's combating coronavirus webpage.

Library offers curbside pickup service

In case you missed it in the link to the full press release above, here's the latest news on the Sierra Vista Public Library.

While the library's lobby will reopen Monday, to include takeout orders at the café located inside, most of the library building will remain closed until further notice and a curbside pickup program will be available in the interim.

The curbside pickup program starts Monday and will be available from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Thursday and from 4 to 6 p.m. on Friday. Patrons may place up to 10 items on hold via the library's digital catalog or by calling the library (520) 458-4225. Then they must call the library to schedule a time to pick up their items from the front of the library.

The pickup program will be contactless, meaning staff will not be available to handle returns or any other services at that time. The items will be labeled with the patron's last name and the last four digits of their library card number.

Patrons may now make returns via the library's drive-thru drop box located in the library parking lot. Starting Monday, book drops by the library entrance will be open from 10 to 2 p.m. Monday through Thursday.

A temporary computer lab will also be available starting Monday located off of the lobby inside the Mona Bishop Room. Patrons will have an hour limit and computers will be available on a first-come, first-served basis Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Patrons are urged to only use the computer lab for critical needs.

The library also urges patrons to avoid loitering in the lobby or near the entrance and to practice social distancing by staying at least 6 feet apart.
Extraordinary Vigilance

As Arizona begins to reopen, it's more important than ever to remain vigilant against the spread of COVID-19.

Whether you are heading back to the office, supporting a local business, or enjoying some outdoor recreation, it's vital to continue practicing CDC-recommended safety precautions.

That includes:

  • Social distancing by staying 6 feet away from other people whenever possible
  • Washing your hands thoroughly and often (learn tips)
  • Staying home if you feel sick
  • Wearing a cloth face-covering when out in public where social distancing is difficult

They will wear personal protective equipment while out in the field, and will follow social distancing and hygiene guidelines. They will not ring doorbells or knock on doors at the residences.
