Some City facilities, particularly those associated with outdoor recreation, will reopen Saturday following the expiration of Gov. Doug Ducey's stay home order on Friday, while many buildings will remain closed for now as staff plans and prepares to open them safely.
Outdoor amenities including the skate park in Veterans Memorial Park, the dog park in Tompkins Park and sports facilities like ballfields and basketball, pickleball, volleyball, and tennis courts will reopen on Saturday. Lobbies at City facilities including the Sports Division, City Hall, the Pedro Castro Maintenance Center, the Ethel H. Berger Center (EBC), Sierra Vista Police Department, and Sierra Vista Public Library will reopen on Monday.
The Oscar Yrun Community Center will remain closed for construction, with plans to reopen in late June. Customer service for leisure program registrations and payments can be completed over the phone or in person at EBC.
Residents are still encouraged to take care of any business online whenever possible. While lobbies will be open, most buildings will remain closed to the public for now apart from their lobbies while the City ensures adequate sanitation supplies can be sustained and procedures can be established to protect staff and the public.
Online payments are encouraged, although customer service staff will be available to take credit card and check payments at some facilities. Cash payments are temporarily suspended.
"We're encouraged by the guidance provided by Governor Ducey that allows us to start opening back up and we thank our residents for being patient during this tough time," Sierra Vista Mayor Rick Mueller says. "However, please understand that this is not the moment to move full speed ahead. We must still practice common sense hygiene,
adhere to social distancing as much as possible, and respect safety measures to ensure we do not lose the extraordinary progress we've made in fighting COVID-19."
Updates regarding the status of particular facilities and programs are provided below. The status of City facilities is subject to change based on the latest state and federal guidance and on the number of active COVID-19 cases in the area.
