With more information than ever before, we know you’ll find the
answers to most of your questions on our website.
Dear Member, Supporter, Stakeholder,

Look out for our 2021 Member Survey coming out next week. We appreciate your time sharing thoughts on how YOUR Club is doing.

Two weeks ago, we talked about the incredible lengths our coaches go to, in order to be qualified, screened and prepared to get on the pitch and safely work with our players. We have kicked off an exciting new Indoor season with more competitive coaches than ever, and a fantastic group of talented coaches working with our recreational players each weekend. A sincere THANK YOU has to go to the coaches for their efforts in getting everything into the office for review and we look forward to supporting them throughout the season. With Dave and Hollie they are in good hands for support and development.

Focusing on the administrative side of the game, our volunteer team managers have been pushed harder than ever as we make every effort to get players on the field. With a late end to the Outdoor 2021 season and a fluctuating start to the Indoor 2021-2022 season it has resulted in challenges trying to close out team accounts for the year while welcoming new players and families to the Club. As parents and supporters please do everything you can to help the team staff collect what they need ready for the season to start. At this time of year it often means;

  • Late night drop-offs of player photos and player books,
  • Countless emails to confirm uniform sizes and sizing appointments,
  • Re-arranged league schedules,
  • Training time adjustments and more!

With all this said we want you to be aware there is a lot that goes on behind the scenes and Pickering FC believes in doing things properly. Shortcuts and 'doing what other Clubs do' is rarely the right thing to do in our experience.
PFC Facility Staff will be positioned in the lobby to check everyone in, subject to their vaccine requirements. PFC will not accept any abuse of staff or volunteers as we all try to navigate this difficult time. Please have patience and come prepared.

SPOTS STILL AVAILABLE IN OUR WINTER & SPRING SEASONS
Your copy should address 3 key questions: Who am I writing for? (Audience) Why should they care? (Benefit) What do I want them to do here? (Call-to-Action)

Create a great offer by adding words like "free" "personalized" "complimentary" or "customized." A sense of urgency often helps readers take an action, so think about inserting phrases like "for a limited time only" or "only 7 remaining!"

All Abilities
November Update
We released our November newsletter yesterday which can be found at the link below. November was a very busy month, we have a lot of news to share!
We wrote a BOOK!!!
That's right. Our first All Abilities Book will be coming out soon - just in time for the Holidays!

Anusha Broekhuyse joined us as a volunteer at the height of the pandemic, assisting with our virtual programming. She then brought her love of our program to the field and joined us this summer as a coach.

Anusha used her visual art skills to illustrate the enjoyment, fears, and challenges that youth living with disabilities face on a daily basis and hopes that this book will help inspire more children living with intellectual and/or physical disabilities to participate in sports.

Anusha is very generously donating all proceeds from the sale of this book to our All Abilities Program.

Logan Learns to Play will be available on Amazon for $15.00. We will let you know once it is available. We will also have copies available for purchase at the Pickering Soccer Centre.
Volunteers Needed!
WHY VOLUNTEER?
The Pickering Football Club’s All Abilities Program is a unique program which offers children and youth with special needs a chance to have fun, make friends and get fit through the great game of soccer. We have grown to become one of the largest programs in Canada. We are always looking for volunteers to join our program. You will receive specialised training and the opportunity to truly make a difference in our community. Join our team to help us continue to bring much needed sports programs to the many children  in our community who may never get a chance to play and have fun in a sports environment.

As a Volunteer, you will:
  • Work one-to-one with athletes, guiding them through the sessions
  • Work closely with other volunteers and instructors to learn how to be a great mentor and friend
  • Help set up and take down equipment
  • Demonstrate and help athletes learn soccer skills, physical literacy skills, and teamwork skills
  • Help athletes to make friends and have a great time!
  • SOCCER EXPERIENCE IS NOT REQUIRED!

Volunteers are needed Saturdays, January 8 - April 7, 2022 - 9:00 am - 11:00 am at the Pickering Soccer Centre.

Recreation & Sport Research Project
We are happy to announce that our Barriers to Sport and Recreation Survey is now available.

This project will allow us to design and test new programs that meet community needs, explore ways to make our facilities more accessible, and find ways to ensure that new programs are sustainable. Our goal is to make the benefits of active participation and an active lifestyle more accessible to priority populations.

This survey should take 10 minutes to complete, and should be completed by members of Durham’s priority populations including but not limited to: newcomers, seniors, people with disabilities, LGBTQ2+, and indigenous populations.

This project is funded in part through a grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation.
