FAU produced a pilot series of educational videos designed to engage middle and high school students in computer science and engineering. Increase in Accidental Infant Deaths in Bed

Published in the Maternal and Child Health Journal , studies from Charles E. Schmidt College of Medicine show that accidental suffocation and strangulation infant deaths have tripled between 1999 and 2016. READ MORE.
Scientists Challenging Reporting Rules

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) is delaying the rule that basic studies of human subjects can qualify as clinical trials in ClinicalTrials.gov, so the agency can explore other ways to report the research. The controversy covers new requirements for registering and reporting results from NIH-funded clinical studies that did not test drugs or other potential treatments. READ MORE.
Featured Book of the Week

"Radar Rainfall Data Estimation and Use" was authored by Ramesh Teegavarapu, Ph.D., a professor in the Department of Civil, Environmental and Geomatics Engineering in the College of Engineering and Computer Science. The book looks at the basic philosophy and principles for estimating and analyzing radar rainfall data and analyzing data.

Celebrating the NSF Career Proposal Submissions

The Division of Research recently hosted a breakfast celebration to acknowledge those who submitted National Science Foundation (NSF) Career proposals. NSF Career proposals are unlike any other program and takes months of planning, drafting and redrafting, according to Jeanne M. Viviani, far left, director of Research Development. Honored for Analyzing Medicare Advantage

Charles Yang, associate professor of finance in the College of Business and Kaye Family Research Fellow, recently co-presented research at the 2019 health meeting of the Society of Actuaries, the world's largest actuarial professional organization. The study focused on on Medicare savings and data envelopment analysis approaches to Medicare cost efficiency.

The society also honored Yang with their North American Actuarial Journal Annual Prize for an article analyzing Medicare advantage and accountable care organizations. READ MORE .
