Terje Hoim Ph.D. was recently named the interim associate dean of academic affairs of
Harriet L. Wilkes Honors College of Florida Atlantic University at Jupiter. For the past three years, Dr. Hoim has served the college as chair of math and sciences. Originally from Estonia, Dr. Hoim received her Ph.D. in Pure Mathematics from Kent State University. She joined the college in 2003 and has received multiple awards for her teaching and advising as a faculty member. Timothy Steigenga, Ph.D., interim dean of Wilkes Honors College noted, “Dr. Hoim has played a critical role in the college leadership team for the past three years and has a clear understanding of the responsibilities associated with the associate dean position. I am grateful to Terje for agreeing to step into this role during an extremely busy year of celebration and transition for the college.”

FAU Jupiter hosted Former Supreme Court Justice Barbara Pariente, Palm Beach County Bar Association President Jessica Callow, Annette Pitts Executive Director of The Florida Law Related Education Association & Judge Cymonie Rowe for an interactive discussion on Constitution Day. FAU Jupiter Student Government and the Palm Beach County Association for Women Lawyers sponsored the event that discussed some leading constitutional issues, such as Freedom of Speech, the Right to Bear Arms and Racial Discrimination. Harriet L. Wilkes Honors College Professor of Political Science, Mark Tunick, Ph.D. moderated the event.

Brain Institute's Ascend Program (Advancing STEM: Community Engagement through Neuroscience Discovery) held the first Neuro Explorer session on Friday, September 13 at the STEM Studio in Jupiter. Students learned all about nervous system anatomy through the dissection of cow brains, sheep brains, mouse brains and cow eyes.

The Florida Atlantic University
Center for Autism and Related Disabilities (CARD) will host the 5th Annual Charity Softball Game and Kids Fest. The event will be held Saturday, Oct. 19, from 10:30 a.m.–2:30 p.m. at the Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium. Stanley Steemer will play John C. Cassidy Air Conditioning from 11 a.m.–12 p.m. First Service Residential will play the winner from 12:30-1:30 p.m. Come out and enjoy arts and crafts, bounce houses, inflatable slides, autograph signing and stick around for the giveaways. Tickets are $10 for kids. Adults are free.

Florida Atlantic University will celebrate Hispanic/Latinx Heritage with a series of events for students and staff from now until Sunday, Oct. 15, at the Boca Raton, Jupiter and Broward campuses. The events are free and open to the public, unless otherwise noted.
The 2019 Hispanic Heritage Month theme is “Hispanic Americans: A History of Serving Our Nation.” The theme invites all to reflect on Hispanic/Latinx American traditions, history and culture and how Hispanic/Latinx people have contributed to the United States. A list of events can be found

The John D. MacArthur Campus presently enrolls more than 1,500 students and offers groundbreaking programs in research and education.
