Dolores Kendrick signing
Director Angie M. Gates with writer
George Pelecanos on the set of DC Noir.
The District is home to profoundly amazing writers who have greatly impacted our local creative economy. We lost one of our iconic writers with the passing of DC's Poet Laureate Dolores Kendrick this month. The District's "First Lady of Poetry" authored several poetry books and played a key role in the founding The School Without Walls of Washington, DC. Her legacy lives on through the power of her poetry.

This month, Emmy-nominated writer  George Pelecanos -- responsible for HBO's  The Wire, "Treme"  and  The Deuce --  wrapped production of his new feature, DC Noir. The crew filmed in all four quadrants of the District, employed local cast and crew, and even hosted Howard University film students for on-set visits and media literacy training.

The TIVA Peer Awards recognized excellence in video production this month at the French Embassy (Ward 2). The DC Entertainment Office is committed to supporting the District's creative community in all 8 Wards and wishes everyone a happy holiday season.
