The Bay Area's TOP Casino
|
|
The Bay 101 Casino held their Grand Opening last month and received a rousing welcome. The new $53 million building, which spans 68,000 square-feet on North First Street in San Jose, is now Feng Shui certified and uses energy-efficient lighting. "We're very proud of the finished project," said Rich Alvari, the Casino's director of sales, marketing and special events. "The lighting, the open space, the rich wood. The idea was to have a comfortable space; not the glitzy Las Vegas feel." The new Bay 101 Casino, at 1788 North First Street in San Jose, is also home to The Province, a Asian fusion restaurant from the owners of three upscale Santana Row eateries: Sino, Straits and Roots & Rye. |

Sonoma Raceway
|
For the 15th consecutive year, race fans and community members can help brighten the holidays for Sonoma Valley kids by donating toys to Sonoma Raceway's High-Powered Toy Drive. All toys collected during the toy drive, which runs through Wednesday, Dec. 6, will be distributed to more than 340 children at the raceway's annual Race to the Holidays Christmas Party on Saturday, Dec. 9. All children are pre-registered for the party through one of six Sonoma Valley non-profit youth organizations. New, unwrapped gifts for newborns to 12-year-olds are needed. "We are grateful to have many of our mentees and their families be included in an event that touches the lives of so many children through generous gift-giving, the performance of holiday songs, and the overall kindness and holiday spirit provided by the thoughtful people of Speedway Children's Charities at Sonoma Raceway," said program director at Sonoma Valley Mentoring Alliance, Tina Baldry. Gundlach-Bundschu Winery will again support the toy drive at its Bacchus Holiday Bazaar on Saturday, Dec. 2. For more information about the High-Powered Toy Drive, contact Cheri Plattner at 707-933-3950 or cplattner@sonomaraceway.com. Photo by Joe Jacobson. |

US Fiji All Stars Soccer Team Seek
2017 Pacific Cup
The US Fiji All Stars Soccer Team, formed and managed by the America Fiji Sports Commission, is headed to Auckland, New Zealand to participate in the 2017 Pacific Cup Soccer Tournament.
Fiji Football Association (Fiji FA) appointed Mr. Narendra Narayan as Fiji Football Association's Liaison Executive for North America. With the guidance and leadership of Mr. Narayan, America Fiji Sports Commission (AFSC) was formed as a NonProfit 501(c)(3) in 2015. AFSC is recognized by Fiji FA as the body involved in the promotion and development of soccer locally, and as a coordinating link for participation of US representative teams in Fiji FA-sanctioned international soccer events, and a link for international teams coming to the USA.
Arif Khatib, founder/president of the Multi-Ethnic Sports Hall of Fame, has planned an induction ceremony in Fiji in August of 2018 to induct several athletes from Fiji, New Zealand (NZ) and Australia.

As an associate member of Fiji Football Association (Fiji FA), the leadership was invited to send a representative team to participate in 2015's Pacific Cup Tournament in NZ. Pacific Cup arises from a joint initiative of Fiji FA and its member affiliates: New Zealand Fiji Football and Australia Fiji Football Association. It aims to promote the development of soccer while serving the objective of bringing together players, fans and their families that have migrated and settled in overseas countries.
"The initiative of Fiji FA and New Zealand Football Inc. is highly commendable and the local team is indeed honored to be a part of this prestigious initiative," said Mr. Narayan.
"Team USA traveled to New Zealand for Pacific Cup 2015. They played very well and were the Pool winners. Additionally, Team USA received a trophy for 'Best Team of the Tournament.' In 2016 Pacific Cup was held in Fiji and we made it to the semi-finals. It was a difficult defeat! Our team played well and we were indeed proud of them," said Rose Langensiepen, chief financial officer.
"2017 Pacific Cup is in Auckland, New Zealand and commences from Nov. 22 to Nov 26. The coach, tour director and team managers have done an excellent job in putting together a winning team. Team USA is prepared and on target to bring that trophy back!" said officer Langensiepen.
