FEATURED EVENT: College Application Month
Since late October, all of our high schools have been participating in College Application Month activities as a way of supporting seniors in preparing their college and financial aid applications. Completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, the Oregon Office of Student Access and Completion scholarship application, and, for those interested in attending community college, the Oregon Promise Grant application, are key steps in the post-secondary planning process. Nearly all seniors have participated in one or more of these activities and many have already secured acceptance to one or more colleges! Way to go!

Inspiring a Love of Science
UPCOMING
EVENTS
In the spring of this year, HSD completed a three-year K-8 science materials adoption process, which culminated in the School Board's approval of Amplify Science. Amplify Science materials are aligned to the Next Generation Science Standards and integrate other disciplines like language arts and math. This means the units are not only relevant, but are engaging students by tapping into their natural curiosity and spurring higher-level thinking. Read more here.

HSD's Preschool Programs Prepare Students for Success
Research shows that students who have received formalized early childhood education - especially those from lower socioeconomic backgrounds and/or those who are emerging bilinguals - benefit greatly from the experience and enter kindergarten ready to learn. That readiness and ability to stay on track with their peers helps set students up for a lifetime of academic success. HSD currently has eight grant-supported preschool programs that are helping our neediest students get the educational foundation they need.

Reedville's Preschool Program Receives 5-Star Rating from State

Congratulations are in order for Reedville Elementary School, whose preschool program was recently awarded a 5-star rating by the State of Oregon. Robin Farup-Romero is Reedville's principal and also serves as the District's Early Learning Coordinator. She, along with Early Learning Teacher on Special Assignment Kelly Purdy and Preschool Teacher Winnie Silva Tompkins, worked diligently to prepare the program for evaluation, which included a review of staff training and certification records and curriculum, as well as an inspection of the facility.

Consider a gift to the Hillsboro Schools Foundation, to your local school, or to your favorite charity(ies) this holiday season!
