Feedback Welcome!
Laura & Bane's PAWS Journey
In March 2016, our family brought home a smelly, dirty, fourteen pound ball of fluff. This puppy, who we named Bane, left his life on a farm and came into our lives, our home and our hearts. He quickly became an immediate part of our family and our son Jaxon's best friend!

I have struggled for years with stress, depression and anxiety. Within a few short months of Bane joining our family, I could notice the difference that he was making on my mental and physical being. At that time I decided I was going to share him so he could have the same impact on others as he had with me. Bane was certified as a PAWS therapy pup in March of 2017.

One of the most stressful places for the majority of people is work and I became intrigued when I saw that PAWS for People offers corporate DeStress events. After learning this, I quickly engaged the senior leadership at my company to propose bringing PAWS onsite for our employees. They agreed to allow me to host an event - as a test. I was required to get employee feedback prior to getting permission for an ongoing program. It wasn't a surprise when 98% of employees that attended the event declared that they loved our first DeStress event! As a result, one of our Operations Directors agreed to sign on as an executive sponsor of an ongoing initiative and asked that I coordinate 6 hour DeStress events on a monthly basis as the Program Lead.

My plate quickly began to fill, so I decided to build a team of employee volunteers (we currently have 20 team members!) to help me coordinate and run the events, which entails working with our building Facility and Security teams, escorting/guiding teams through the building and ensuring the teams have what they need while they are in the center. I also developed a standard operating procedure so that our DeStress events will become a self-sustaining program that will continue to live on, regardless of  the program lead.

Word of PAWS and these incredible events quickly spread across the company and now, after only 4 events, sites in other parts of the country have engaged us to learn more about pet therapy and are currently working within their sites to implement similar programs for their employees!

I look forward to the continued partnership with our staff and PAWS on these fun and extremely beneficial events filled with never-ending wet-nosed kisses, belly rubs, smiles, laughter and of course, lots of puppy love! I consider myself very lucky that I get to see the benefits of pet therapy from both sides; the perspective of a Pet Therapy team AND an employee!
