Event Recap:
Community Conversation
On November 1st, WEforum and Monmouth Medical Center, RWJ Barnabas Health joined forces with The Source to host its second installment of WEforum’s Community Conversation expert panel series. This time, the conversation focused on the undeniable correlation between chronic diseases and the standard American diet. This free community event took place at Red Bank Regional High School bringing together parents and young adults to critique the controversial documentary film, “What the Health” that’ s made waves with its stance on how what we eat affects our health, the environment and how business, industry, and public policy negatively influence the American diet.
Thank you for all who attended our recent Community Conversation event where three panelists described in our above synopsis debated what was fact and what could be misinterpreted in the wildly controversial documentary What The Health
Dr. Josh Axe, DNM, DC, CNS, a certified doctor of natural medicine, doctor of chiropractic and clinical nutritionist with a passion to help people get healthy by using food as medicine, wrote a review of the documentary and details where What the Health went wrong and where they got it right.  This article may make you start to rethink your health and how you should source your food.  Isn't time to take your health seriously by understanding what you are putting into your body?
Follow Up: What the Health? What changes can you make?
What The Health panelists, Anndrea Yetter, clinical nutritionist, health coach and chef, and Marcy T. Ragan , chef and owner of Relish Your Chef , help to answer some basic questions for those of us who are trying to make healthy, easy, non-stressful changes to what we eat and how we prepare our foods.

WEforum Wants to Know:
How... Enhanced Understanding of the Gut Microbiome is Helping Medicine
Why... Under New Guidelines, Millions More Americans Will Need to Lower Blood Pressure
This article explains some of the most recent developments in understanding the links between our "guts" or microbiome and disease and importantly, how to alter the balance of good and bad bacteria in our microbiomes to help cure a wide range of diseases.  Diseases such as inflammatory bowel disease, autism, multiple sclerosis, obesity, diabetes and chronic-fatigue syndrome all seem to have links with the microbiome. While much more research is needed, some exciting developments are underway.

The American Heart Association and the American College of Cardiology have issued new guidelines for the definition of high blood pressure lowering the definition from 140/90 down to 130/80. In so doing,  the number of men under age 45 with a diagnosis of high blood pressure will triple, and the prevalence among women under age 45 will double. Few risk factors are as important to health. High blood pressure is second only to smoking as a preventable cause of heart attacks and strokes, and heart disease remains the leading killer of Americans.

Meet Joe Durso & Kitch Organic

Gathering a Community at the
Table for Health

When you enter Kitch Organic’s flagship location on Red Bank’s west side you can’t help but notice the communal table anchoring the dining space. It’s the symbol for what Joe Durso set out to do when he opened KO in October 2015. Patrons gather, strangers and friends, to enjoy the one thing that truly brings people together from every walk of life - a good meal. Joe Durso takes it one step further by serving his customers a meal that is good for you. Kitch Organic was founded with the goal of bringing people together to experience clean, natural food together - as a community. And if Joe Durso has his way, Red Bank is just the beginning.
