We are thankful for all that God has done in the Choluteca ministry this year . We work with a fantastic team. As we near 38 years of ministry with World Gospel Mission, we are convinced that there are people in place who can do a great job of continuing with the vision that God has given to all of us. We have a new vocational director this year, Osman Echeverria, who is implementing some innovative strategies. Osman has done a marvelous job of offering new courses, such as baking and cake decorating and continuing with mobile classes in villages. Aleyda Spetnagel, the director of the nursing high school, had to accomplish a lot of firsts this year with the accreditation requirements. Margarita, the nursing coordinator in the school, is having to be creative in all of the class teachings since this program is the first-ever nursing high school in the country.

We are also grateful for what God continues to do in our family . We have a new grandson this year. Carter James is the sweetest child, and at nine months has already started walking. Quinn (11), Colin (9), Natalie (7), and Donald (5) make us proud as they excel in school and other activities. It is always exciting to see how God is working in their lives. David and Stacey, Rachel and Jared, and Maria and Jasdeep (JD) Singh love being together. Angie's mom (87) and Larry's dad (95) are both doing well. We are proud of all of our family.
Larry and Angie Update-

We arrived back in the states on October 29th, and have not slowed down. However, Larry has had to continue to deal with pneumonia. Please pray for our health!  Larry is working on his dissertation. He will be doing his research in January when we go back to Honduras. One of our main concerns is the lack of continuing education in the youth population (almost 70%). Thus, we are very adamant about encouraging the youth to continue in school.
Next year, we will be going back to Honduras for two months, to start the new school year, welcome and work with four groups coming, and do the research for Larry. Then, in March, we will return to the states to continue Homeland Ministry until the end of 2018. Please write to Angie (angie.overholt@wgm.org) to arrange a service in your area.

" Hello! My name is Genesis Gissell Garcia. I am a first-year student at the high school of nursing. I am 18 years old, and my birthday is on April 22nd. At home, I live with my mother, cousins, and my grandfather. In order to generate some funds my mom sews.

I came to the Institution for Integral Transformation because I consider it a great opportunity for my life. What I like most about IETI is the way we are treated. I also feel I am growing in my spiritual walk. When I graduate from here, I am going to work to be able to continue with my college education."

Angie and I often reflect that most of what we do involves education. Education is a great need for the youth in Honduras. According to government statistics, only 31.7 % of the youth between 15-17 years old are taking classes. Most of them are not working, either.

Genesis is one of nearly 200 students who will be studying in our nursing and vocational schools next year. Most of our students come from very difficult economic backgrounds, and they could not afford to study in other high schools. The majority of our students depend on sponsorships to help them come to our schools. For $100 per year, you can help sponsor one of our students in the nursing high school, in our new 7th-grade program, in the vocational school, or with primary school education. A single $100 annual sponsorship helps cover a portion of the student's overall cost of education. You can send your sponsorship by January 1, 2018, to WGM at account #25498.
Major Challenges for 2018

I talked with one of our team members in Honduras today. Chacho said, "Humanly-speaking, the challenges are insurmountable for 2018. We have so much that needs to be done." But Chacho also reminded me that God has already provided beyond our greatest expectations.

As our inaugural class of nursing students move on to the 11th grade in 2018, a new group of tenth graders are applying to come to school next year. The school has gained a good reputation during our first year and it looks like we will have an abundance of candidates to choose from.

The challenge will be to build new classrooms for next year. We are hoping to build three new classrooms for $15,000 each. Two of the classrooms will be for the nursing students. They will be on the second floor so the square-foot cost of construction will be higher than normal. We need to add bathrooms and increase the size of our office as well. Besides the two nursing school rooms that are needed, we are hoping to start a new seventh grade middle-school program. We have found that our nursing school students were not adequately prepared for the academic level required of them. With extra help, they have done well but we hope to back up and start educating at a lower level. (account for building classrooms: 25492)

We still need the other 50% of the cost  ($128,000) of the new property for the nursing school and church next door. We cannot build on that property until we officially own it. Please pray for these needs. We are so excited by all that God is doing in the southern part of Honduras, through education. (account for property: 35493)
